A little faith in humanity goes a long way, friend.

I have faith in humanity. The fact we are here is enough proof to have faith in humanity.

That doesn't mean to say I have faith in direct democracy. Not even Switzerland, the place people point to whenever someone mentions "direct democracy" is nowhere near a true direct democracy. It is a federal republic that occassionally holds referenda on certain legislation.

Though that raises a question, is it more evil to do it because you want to do it, to do it because it's evil or to do it for a reward?
Taking a reward requires some kind of restraint, like otherwise you wouldn't go and murder a bunch of kids or something. It's more of a neutral evil as opposed to someone just doing what they feel like doing even if it's bad which is chaotic evil and imo a lot worse.

a sad story of EU bureaucracy may actually have a good ending

http://www.dw.com/en/hopes-rise-for-pen ... a-44142837

the story in case you missed it:
  • Penka, a pregnant red cow, crossed into non-EU Serbia from her farm in Bulgaria
  • Bulgarian officials plan to put Penka down after she crossed back illegally
  • The cow did not have the correct documentation at the time of the crossing
  • Penka was given a clean bill of health by Serbian vets but won't be allowed to live

Well the article says that the cow's illegal crossing into Serbia was caught on camera by Bulgarian border guards, they would've probably caught her crossing back anyway and stopped her eventually

I guess yes, mass incineration may have been a solution if she had already made it back to the herd. Don't underestimate the EU, regulations are there specifically to prevent livestock from catching dangerous ailments off-europe and bringing them back to the EU. Once she's back with the other cows, it's too late and the whole herd is already exposed to whatever deadly Serbian virus she may have caught over the border.

Our nat-populist government had to face their first crisis, and they won.
  • an NGO ship loaded with 600+ migrants fished off Lybia is directed to Malta by the italian maritime rescue coordination center (MRCC)
  • Malta says no, fuck off (like they always do)
  • italian government says the ship will not be authorized to dock in Italy
  • MRCC puts the ship on hold near Malta
  • the ship begs to be let through to Italy because it's overcrowded and people are sick
  • government says no, dispatches supply vessels to bring doctors and resupply the ship
  • out of nowhere, the newborn Spanish socialist government says they'll take the ship
  • italian government celebrates its victory
  • Macron says that what Italy did "makes him vomit"
  • this is the first time we ever refused entry to an NGO ship, without them going into harbor anyway due to "state of emergency"
  • if this means that from now on they'll all be redirected elsewhere, this is huge

It's a nice start to taking care of the mass immigration problem, but since now they'll just go to Spain I expect no real change

Also
If they're overcrowded and people were sick, why didn't they just go back to Libya? Seems they're doing it to themselves there

Libya isn't considered "safe harbour" by the MRCC because not only they don't guarantee proper medical assistance, but their coast guard may interfere and even block the NGO ship from entering territorial waters. Too much shit to deal with. Tunisia, on the other hand...

How many euro's would you bet that they immediately spread out to France and start a viruelent epidemic of measles across the border, because importing migrants with diseases from 3/2 world countries ramps up the risk locally wherever they are centred without vaccination programmes. In a money tight Spain, they may be inviting more than they can handle if the medical system can't keep on top it.

Also don't lie i just think the Spanish government took them in so they can have better chance at re-election if the unemployment figures get notable fixture of employment from the medditerreanan migrant triangle trade for cheap euro workers from Africa and the ME, while all this Catalonia fracas is going on too as a welcome distraction from the headlines in a hopeful effect like Brexit had of literally never being off the news.

From an Italian POV, the Spanish decision is shocking. Nobody here would ever think that such a thing would be popular or bring votes. Even leftist parties here would never dare to say something like that, they'd consider it nothing short of a political suicide. I guess they don't have migrant problems in Spain?

Re: 2k18 /pol/

Because Italy was in the news and Malta was not

Also >Spain taking them in
They're just going to travel north and apply in Germany/France/Sweden. Of course it's easy for Spain to take them in, they won't have to pay for them or deal with that shit

Also also >Epidemic risk
Thanks to recent mass immigration, diseases we thought to be near extinction in the west like TB have made a comeback, which makes sense because these are literally people from disease-ridden shitholes that are trying to get into countries without any sort of checkups, paperwork or legal process
It is a legitimate safety risk to allow them in, but we can't exactly turn back time to prevent it anymore either. So enjoy your exotic diseases! And doubly so when they bring their local anti-biotic immune bacteria with them

Well the issue with Malta basically boils down to two things:
They're really tiny and can't realistically hold a lot of refugees.
They're actually the second EU country for number of refugees weighted on population (first is Sweden). Of course this doesn't say much because the real problem aren't refugees but economic migrants and other illegals which then go on to spread crime and decay throughout the country. Only 1 out of 20 migrants fished off Libya are potential refugees (odds may even be lower) and Italy is so low on the list of countries accepting refugees because well, THOSE WHO COME HERE ARE NOT REFUGEES

those votes are always done because the MPs believe something is so wrong they disrupt the running of parliament to make a point.

And the SNP MPs are entirely right. Theresa May is being completely unconsitutional in the way powers are being taken by Westminster when they should be in the domain of the Scottish Government as set down in the Scotland Act of 1998. It requires an Act of Parliament, and a vote/debate in Parliament to change an Act of Parliament. Theresa May is attempting to do this with no vote, no debate and no Act.

It is utter disrespect towards the idea of devolution and that Scotland is "equal" in any way.

Yes it was a coast guard ship carrying 1000 migrants more or less. The coast guard and Navy rescue migrants as part of joint operations with other navies, what the government did was take a firm stance against NGO operations specifically. NGOs are really shady and there is suspicion they may work with human traffickers who put migrants in a bathtub and tow it just over the line in international waters where the NGO is waiting to pick them up.
