Hip Hop is a dead genre

It was good once. Through the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's it was alive and growing.

It's been dead for years though.

The problem is there's so much of it, incredibly popularity in the genre caused explosive growth and people charted so much territory that it's nigh-impossible to be original. You can spit new bars but the topics are all the same. I'm rich and my life is better than yours. I'm poor and the world sucks. Have sex with me. It's the same joke people made about Country music; every song is about a guy's pickup truck breaking his dog dying and his girlfriend leaving him.

As much as I hate Death Grips I do respect them for trying some weird new shit and Hip Hop needs way more of that. Start borrowing pages from other genre's. Steal material from metal and start rapping about Satan or whatever. Write a whole album about wizards and barbarians or whatever. Something new. Anything new.

More ennui over 70's soul isn't saying anything new. It's been done a hundred times and better before.

hip hop has always had its roots in being underground, as soon as it got popular it was bound to get filled with cookie cutter shit. now i sometimes jam to cookie cutter shit (put me on pills and ill jam to the fucking village people like it's fucking jungle in a warehouse gig yget me). you gotta search high and low on soundcloud and shit to find the logics that are still making mixtapes.

i blame that on internet culture in general, back in the 80's you would only see your rapper in the album covers, you would very rarely ever get to see them anywhere else, now if a nigga EVEN THINKS to sit down to have a piss hes got TMZ and fucking worldstarhiphop reporting on him with 24/7 live updates. they have to put this aura of super rich since that is as important for their brand as how good their music is.

If you hate Eminem you're just a pretentious hipster though.

He's legitimately good. He took the cadence Busta Rhymes established/popularized and completely ran away with it. He had a lot of firsts in touching on different topics and re-established white voices in the genre after the genre as a whole became a lot more serious and acts like the Beastie Boys became irrelevant.

Like in hardcore and other hard rock genre's the arms race has become how low you can tune that shit. Seven string guitars in increasingly dropped tuning.

In rap you have two variables, what you're saying and how you say it. Your bars and your cadence.
The problem is that everyone is stuck on the same topic and even having an insane cadence is kinda played out. It's like listening to John Petrucci on guitar. Yeah he's incredibly talented and he's shredding like fucking crazy but it's still something we've all heard before. Yeah Eminem can say 300 words per minute or whatever but we've heard it before.
