Does this guy make his own beats and mix or does someone else do it and then he ruins it by spitting the same old bullshit over it?

The musical production is great and the guy's flow isn't bad but it's the same boring ass message people have been repeating for the last 30+ years.
"I party real good and also I have a lot of sex."

I push Bus Driver a ton because one of, if not the only person that always springs to mind of people who actually try different shit.

I miss when Hip Hop was all about who could be the angriest person in the room. The golden era of Tupac, Biggie, Wu Tang, DMX. It was the same stuff too, each progressively describing larger piles of firearms in their house, arrests, etc. but at least there was an escalation to it. They were going harder, higher, raising stakes.

So much of this shit today is just "I also smoke weed and fuck bitches."

Odd Future and the associated acts were the last crop of rappers I can think of that broke that mold and gained major notoriety for it. And even then really not all that much in the grand scheme of things.

Re: Music

hip hop moved on.

nobody wants to listen to someone rapping like biggie or 2pac or wu-tang because if you want to listen to that kinda shit you go straight for the source.

who would you rather listen to, a mixtape made by a nobody in the style of biggie or go listen to biggie himself? it's alot less effort to just pop a biggie album than having to look deep and far to find something biggie-like in soundcloud. and even when you find it it could be total doggie dookie.

The production game has stepped up a lot in terms of sheer complexity. Hip Hop learned a lot from EDM in all its forms and is incorporating much more of that production and toolset. They have a baby together and you get Trap music.
But you have to admit at the same time the lyrical content, the message of it, has gotten boring as fuck.
And that doesn't make sense because it's very rarely one person doing both. I wonder why they don't ditch the other fucking guy and just make EDM.

Rap hits are one of or a combination of:

1) I can afford to do a lot of drugs
2) I fuck a lot
3) I invented a new dance move

The question you should be asking is not why don't people just listen to Tupac and Biggie albums instead but what would those two be doing if they were still here?

A while back, rosen got me pretty hooked on the protomen. They're loosely based off of the megaman series, and have a pretty nice mix. Their act I and act II albums are in a sort of 'story' told order, with one song leading to the other while telling a story. Their act II album takes place as a precursor to their act I album, and starts with a nice 'organic' sound/theme to it, and slowly progresses to rock/electronic, it is based around the original creation of the robot designs with Dr. Light and Dr. Wily being the main characters of the story, and goes into the creation of Wily city(?). Their act I album is based around protomen and megaman, and has an electronic/rock/opera theme that progressively gets harder/more intense as the album moves forward. They have a few singles from their unreleased act III that take the best of both worlds.

In addition, through this I found another like band called the megas, which are more true to the original theme and story of the megaman series. Personally I didn't like some of their older music as it feels too outdated/concept, but I'd suggest checking out their album "History Repeating: Blue." Though, they also redid their two most popular older songs to fit the theme of their newer work that turned out really well, though it still keeps that retro style (not necessarily a bad thing!) They have a fairly similar style to the protomen. I really like the megas because it feels like it adds more depth, emotion and character to the original series.

also sza's new album was OKAY.

this is coming from me btw who would literally let sza shit on my face and i would still rate it highly

it had some good songs but the entire theme of "retrospective sidechick" got tired fast

my boy ZAY's verse on pretty little birds was fucking sick tho.
