The forums' income model only brings in consistent money if the userbase is consistently growing. Or if you're regularly banning people who actually want to come back bad enough to shell out 10bux each time they ride the merry-go-round.

But as we all know, SA's growth has been stagnant for the better part of the last decade. It ain't like ad revenue is gonna bring home an appreciable amount of bacon either.

I gave Lowtax a total of 30 bucks over the course of a few months (registration + premium + no ads) fifteen years ago and have continued to enjoy those benefits in the years since without contributing anything else. (Maybe a spare twenty along the way after a WAAAAH WAAAAH I'M BROKE announcement a few years ago? I can't really remember.) It's the same story for the vast majority of the userbase, except most only dropped 10.

A patreon makes a lot of sense under those circumstances.

It's all moot now anyway, as lowtax has apparently sold the site and all of its assets to a forum member for an undisclosed amount of money.

The more I read about the situation the better of an idea that seems. I think we all knew Rich had some serious problems, but YIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKES.
