There's a good reason we're talking about murder boning in general. That is because this is a:

korol or anyones murderboning can be annoying but people have literally 3 other fucking servers to play on not to mention plenty of downstream servers

like others have said, punish appropriately, give the antag missions, find a way to make it fun for EVERYONE. that's your fucking job in addition to making sure people arent breaking rules.

I have embraced the mentality of allowing players the agency to ruin their own experience. Congratulations, you're the king of ruins. No one cares.
I'm not going to take it upon myself to improve situations that people systematically attempt to tear apart from the seams at the start. It's not my job to create the core gameplay loop that people have optimized into horizontals.

Not a fan of smites being applied after their IC encounter because of this shitmess that comes from it, and that's the same reason why whenever I get in these situations I just vote to restart and leave if it fails.
I have no motivation to be the victim of someone being a sweaty tryhard trying to push the game to its mechanical limits all the time.
Being round removed minutes into the start of a shift because the first thing I did wasn't gather a weapon simply isn't fun to me.

Most of the comments here are irrelevant, the complaint wouldn't hold any water if the admin hadn't died to the antag.

If they had logged on and observed and did these smites (or more) no-one could claim this was punishable behaviour.

Doing this after dying to the person you're smiting looking like admin abuse, and that's all there is to it.

My point with my previous comment was more about the fact that the obvious admin abuse is the real issue here.There are arguments to be had about whether admins should smite muderboners, but those arguments shouldn't had had here.

In jackrips defense he is what I would call a “good faith” murderboner, if you don’t consider those things to be mutually exclusive. Obviously he does it for himself, every murderboner does. But he doesn’t spam recall, intentionally leaves a few openings, and in general is just blowing off steam in a way that at the very least is not intended to be malicious. I’ve never really cared about murderboning until lately because it really does fuck with bagil pop - which is something I do care about.

IMO the problem extends beyond lowpop murderbone because if all you do is wait until pop moves past what we consider “low” and start murderboning, you’re systematically, even if unintentionally/unknowingly, beating the population into the dirt and keeping it low. Back in 2018 it was all good and fun (even I joined in, and still do on the very rare occasion) because we had a consistently bulky population which honestly blows my mind by todays standards (pop regularly approaching triple digits).

But now that’s not the case, although I’m definitely not naive enough to attribute it solely or primarily to murderboning. Bagil died off and has been on a hard path back to more stable population. Part of me is curious, in an abstract sort of way, what would happen if we banned/restricted murderbone on lower/fluctuating pop servers. There is absolutely no guarantee that type of policy would secure good results, and I can even imagine a few potentially damaging ones that might arise from it, but I’m curious!

Also, according to mothblocks data I only make us lose 15% pop and am bested by dootdoom and heliob, maybe you should set your sights on the true villains like jusuph or dootdoom. Do people who constantly murderbone not understand that

1) they are not the only murderbone main and especially in higher pop it can be several rounds in a row where people are doing this garbage
2) murderboning is easily the biggest reason why the servers dropped creative uses of antags. People want to play the game (surprise surprise) so eventually they get fed up with having to sit out for most of the time and start slowly gearing up more and more as well as start kosing antags regardless of action (because they don’t want to get their round ruined), which in turn means people just murderbone more since any creative use of the role gets rewarded with sitting out as well. Murderboning does not just ruin the round you’re in, it ruins the ability for antags to run gimmicks in later rounds because you now have people on edge.

People bitch over highly chaotic admin-inspired events and I can assure you this would be complaint city if it happened repeatedly for several rounds, but players who create a similar environment are not only allowed to do so but are also encouraged to do so since there is no recourse for people who only play to ensure others do not.

Rule 4 is the only rule people will die hard follow without any desire to allow context and other rules, such as rule 1, to be considered, and then the same people who enforce it can’t understand why people go to manuel or other servers (and you hope they’re staying on tg) because they literally cannot play the game except in the play style of tdm because anything else just has you sitting around for an hour thirty.
