There is literally other ways to interpret this, like Malkraz using statistics about IQ in a territory to shit on fictional characters. Then Malkraz tries and reasonably defends their non-racism by explaining how they were just using a proven statistic from their results to shit on fictional characters. We do care if someone is being racist openly and maliciously towards a certain minority and Malkraz showed no sign of bigotry here.

This is a bad note. It is both factually incorrect and it is clearly not a violation of rule 11 so it shouldnt be upheld.

A good chunk of people^* both don't like racism, and also think that language policing must have zero false positives. Among these people is a strong trend to seperate out racist speech and insensitive speech (with no racist intention) in their mind, which they think shouldn't be included in language policing.

One would think that if you had such a high opinion of them, you would put more effort into trying to understand their viewpoint.

I don't think this note is keeping with MSO's vision of how Rule 11 was to be interpreted.

TBH I don't think anybody who didn't have a history of riding the rule 11 line would have even registered on any admin's radar for the comment mal made.

Questions i'll have to mull in my head:

Is nationality even a protected class under rule 11? should it be? Should I even bother to ridgely define that seeing as how I don't want religion to be a protected class but then what you do about the nazis since judism is a religion.

How much should context matter? Is the context of the person (and their history) a part of this? like, If somebody say self identified as a nazi or a racist would that make even soft-a's racist? in the actual example of this note, was mal's history enough?

The primary goal of writing the rule the way I wrote it was to ensure that non-racist people could still interact in this community without having to worry about having what they said taken in bad faith or brought out of context. How does this fair that goal (given thats it's mal).

(As an aside: A prime example of poorly written rules on this subject is goon station. Technically under their slur rule, quoting our rule 1 ("Don't be a dick") will get you banned because its a gendered slur. They called me a lair and banned me from their IRC channel when I mentioned this oddity.)
