People's happiness may fluctuate but on average across their lives it's actually quite stable. Happy old people were happy young people and sad old people were sad young people.

Happiness and pleasure are two different things. Pleasure is sensation. Happiness is within the soul/mind.

I think pain defines pleasure. You can probably reduce every human action to minimizing pain and maximizing happiness/pleasure, at bottom. But can you ever “finish” that process? Can you ever reach a point of 0 pain and pure pleasure forever?

Even the guy who wins the lottery and has everything you could possibly imagine ends up acclimating to it and going back to a steady baseline of happiness/pain. I think you have to be in touch with pain to appreciate pleasure, or else it just becomes something neutral.

Cool post BTW Citrus pls make more. NORMALIZE REAL TALK.

Pleasure is a way to cope with the pain of being alive.

Not forever, but there are (unsafe) ways to achieve that state temporarily.

A heroin overdose will probably do that.

Haven’t tried that one yet, heard it was neurotoxic which kinda scared me off but maybe some day.
Yeah heroin is a sure-fire way of getting happiness but uh... You better do enough to kill you or else you’re prolly gonna regret it for a looong time after.

Drugs in general are pretty bad for getting happy long-term, although the ones that alter your states of consciousness temporarily could make it easier for you to make your own happiness. I.e. marijuana, psychedelics, alcohol, caffeine etc. Stay away from the ones that fuck directly with your reward center (opioids, benzos, cocaine etc).

Sorry to hear that man. Yeah benzos are probably the worst even compared to like oxy and meth. Problem is it’s a CNS depressant so when you become acclimated to it, cutting it off makes you anxious and have panic attacks or even seizures at worst, which is pretty unbearable so people never can get off of em. Whereas uppers just make you go down when you quit them, which isn’t quite as dangerous because being tired/lethargic is endurable.

You know the stuff is dangerous when it nearly kills Jordan Peterson and like all the amazing artists in the 27 club (rip Jimi Hendrix).

i've tried benzos but at lower doses they didn't do anything noticeable and at higher ones they just made me go to sleep

alcohol is the only depressant i've tried where it actually works
