Bottom post of the previous page:

You have a shit doctor. Talk to the doctor. If the doctor doesn't stop being shit, get another one.

I once had a pretty important appointment delayed 3 months because my doctor left and didn't even hand their work off to anyone.
if we hadn't gotten impatient, it would never have come back around.

Get to speak to a doctor personally

Those tests are literally useless and if you tell the doc that the test is shit, then usually they understand

Nhs is useless.
I think I'd have a lot more hearing left in my right ear if they hadn't taken a year and a half from initial diagnosis to having the surgery
It took them six months just to finally spot what was causing my repeated ear infection

Grumble grumble grumble.

Doing a bunch of shitty data entry shite on my week end because the reward for working my arse off last week and putting in extra time to help the installs guys out was only worth getting to go home early on friday with the caveat of doing the fucking work I would've done that afternoon over the weekend.

Set of cunts.

My friend wants to start making djent music together so I'm learning how to tap djent style drum sequences into my various machines and creating new pads and drones to back him while he shreds on guitar.

He's going to cover lead and I'm going to take on bass/rhythm duties.

one day while i was biking it at full speed downhill in the middle of the street the derailleur or whatever broke and the bike chain came off the rear wheel and i ate shit for 20 feet across the pavement. there was a car behind me but it was turning at the intersection i crashed in so it just casually drove around my lifeless body so i didn't get run over but yeah

thanks dad

It sounds dumb but I did the same thing last year.

Anyway I guess it helped me figure out what was wrong with myself and what to do about it, so I was able to start feeling a lot better about myself.
Didn't end up going past that because of time constraints what with having two surgeries to get through, and the first session with the-rapist got canceled because she was sick.

I just hope this job offer goes through so I can possibly hire a therapist myself. I'm considering low-dosage medication which is a lot coming from me since I've swear'd against it for years.

Most of them are in boxes in my friends' basement for the time being, since I don't have anywhere to hang them (and my family doesn't know about them, and I'm keeping it that way if I can help it). And there's less than a dozen of them, so it'd probably be pretty disorienting, but not eye-scorching.

As an update to my deathcare woes last page, I had a quiet talk with one of my bosses about my thoughts on the situation, She said she'd take care of it discreetly, and I can say with confidence it was taken care of, Last time the situation arose, My name wasn't tossed about after the original care partner bailed on the responsibility.

It's not a get out of jail free card, but now at least it won't fall to me by default, which is all I really wanted in the first place.

I've actually never had that work before, Usually going to your overlords nets you a big bucket of placation's followed by more of the same, Guess that's what I get for having up to now only worked variations on metalurgical plant work, and retail.

I'm no expert welder, don't even own my own rig, but I am passable, at least as far as not killing myself goes, And I got there from youtube, even though you have actual education at your disposal, you might benefit from some of the vast welding tutorial community available there, They might turn a phrase that makes you grasp something you wouldv'e struggled understanding otherwise.

Got to visit my grandfather in the hospital. In his own, tired words "This is hell. I'm in hell."

I guess I have the opposite perspective of Falamazeer in that it seems like all too often people cling to their elderly relatives in my experience. They push them to keep struggling and suffering through a life that lacks any quality experiences or purpose. It hurts to say this but I'm pretty sure my grandfather is ready to die, he's been ready to die for a long time, but my parents can't handle the guilt of letting him go and so they keep bullying him to keep fighting and holding on.

On a good day he passes in and out of consciousness in a chair in his tiny little allotment in their house, mostly by himself. He's in constant pain. Sometimes he watches a little television but mostly he just sleeps. He can't get up to go to the bathroom and he isn't flexible enough to pull his own sweatpants down so my parents have to help him with that. He can at least manage the rest on his own, but it's not enough to really sustain any kind of dignity.

It's been a while since he had a day even that good, though. He mostly just suffers in and out of consciousness alone in different hospital rooms or "recovery" programs that don't make any sense to be called a "recovery" program. He's pushing 100 years old. His health can't really improve. He's over the hump, it's just all downhill step by step from here. You aren't going to get him running on a treadmill and building up muscles. He's not going to get in shape or return the lost years to his body. It's a fucking lie.

He's still my hero, he'll always be like a hero to me, but I'm beginning to believe we should just honor his wishes and let the old man go where he has decided it is his time to go.
We're just shaming him and ruining our collective memories of him at this point. Because letting go hurts too much all at once we're just making everyone suffer for as long as we can go, prolonging the inevitable hurt.

It's fucking stupid and it makes me feel ashamed of myself and my family for making him go through this but at the same time I can't just tell my parents to leave him alone.

I wonder how different it will be for us. We'll always have things like the internet and now virtual reality. Unless dementia sets in and we completely lose our minds having our physical bodies deteriorate underneath us wont prevent us from interacting with others and accomplishing things. I think my Grandfather is just one of those last people who will die in this lonely place because he wasn't around to acclimate to all this new stuff. Like he was born just too early and now we're getting these new things.

I dunno. I think I'm going to try and race to buy a Vive before he goes so if he can be home for just a little longer I can plunk it on his head and see what he thinks of it. He's seen so much crazy shit, so much stuff has progressed in his lifetime that I'd like him to experience that cutting edge one last time. For him to be able to say that he was born before television was a common thing and got to use virtual reality before he passed. That's something I think. I dunno.

I keep feeling like I'm on the verge of tears but it's just a feeling lurking in the back of my bones. Sorry, Grandpa.

thanks for the tip, the book we had to get for the class is actually an awesome resource, although i'll definitely watch some videos to hone my skills.
right now i'm doing an intro class for another couple of weeks, and then a couple weeks of oxyfuel cutting, and then stick for the 2nd half of the semester.

i'm also setting up my first bank account tomorrow, which means i can finally get the rest of my financial aid grant out as actual money. right now i need a welding cap, spare gloves, and some spare lenses for my helmet.
depending on how much i have left over after budgeting out gas and stuff i'm also planning on getting a big tool bag and some basic tools, along with a dremel + cutting wheel and a simple drill. maybe my own grinder as well with a few spare wheels and a backup fixed shade helmet.

I have to admit that I kind of had the realization of my dad's health and lost battle pretty quick when I got to hang out of with him when I went to visit. He nearly straight up died on Christmas Day. Honestly, getting him to a hospital so he wouldn't did little more than give us all a chance for some closure. It probably would have been better, if abrupt, to let him go that day. Lasted a month and went with peace with my aunt there with him.
I regret not being there with him, but I accept that was the choice I made and am not letting myself dwell on it since I NEEDED to go back to work to survive. It's not like I can go back and change it, and I would like to think he would have understood. I called and talked to him nearly every day for his last week until he was unable to communicate anymore. Things have happened the way they have. And unfortunately, we CAN'T go back and fix them.

I actually have advice for you. Don't dwell on what was done and what wasn't. Work towards a solution and face forward. If it's time for him to go, then it's time for him to go. If it must be, find a way to resolve it and allow him some measure of dignity. Some shred that is left. Perhaps that's a bit cold, but some decisions must be made coldly because that is the only way they can be. If you have to harden your heart to help someone, it's still the right thing. At least I think so. Kind of like how I'm dealing with my sister's bullshit... but that's a story for another day.

EDIT: I should state that You should probably find a way for him to go on on his own terms. Not like... go in there with a pillow whispering "Go to sleep."

That's fucking messed up don't do that. THis is more at the rest of the folks here, not you, as I'd Hope you're wise enough to think murder is a good solution.

I am so sorry you are going through this, Just so my comment can reach you, you sir, have affected my internet life and forum trending more than anyone alive. I'm not on facebook, myspace or any social media platform. One of my biggest internet memories beside my teenage chatango trolling times (to my shame) is you standing up and taking over my favorite games administration, albeit temporarily and you deserve respect for it, no matter your intentions, you did a good thing.

Your grandfather feels like he is in hell, Anyone would, His bathroom privacy is gone, and he must now lean on some poor schmuck to take care of it. Anyone first entering the world of healthcare will assume this is the worst thing in the world, and I will tell you first hand with every fiber of my being, he is wrong. he is not a burden just because he can't 'wipe his own ass' I'm sorry to bring that up first and foremost and then assure you it's not first and foremost in the same paragraph. I know that's confusing but bear with me.

Bathroom privacy is the first and most angrily lost amongst the elderly, Not that the elderly are poop deviants or any such nonsense, as cartmen from southpark said 'the bathroom is the last bastion of american freedom' that was a joke, but it wasn't far from the truth, nobody would be happy with a stranger holding their dick to pee and that's AT BEST what your grandfather is going through. the alternative being he feels a cold spot in his loins and realizes the obvious, that he has, without his wilpower or sentience involved, wet himself.

that is hell. no matter how you slice it. and enjoying or even loving his care-givers only adds to the guilt and shame of such events. again I only focus on the voiding of bladders and evacuation of bowels because that's what most elders seem to focus on, for understandable reasons, even with terrible pain to consider, this is the first thing most people cannot accept. followed immediately and sometimes beforehand is being a financial burden to their offspring.

I can only tell you, my facility isn't known for the greatest of care in this nation, but I still cannot point to anyone who sincerely does not give a shit. Mcdonalds walmart and even some metalurgical plant jobs, you could easily point out the people who didnt give a fuck

Caregivers are doing their best across the board even if it may not feel that way at times to assure our elders and help them recover, I personally care for an elder in their mid-100, and while I will not identify their specific age, gender or anything at all, they enjoy their time with us, be it bingo, (LOCAL BIG CITY VACATION REDACTED) or an baloon ride, It all comes down to their perseverance. and attitude on entering care.

Some people are not built to accept such care, no matter how it is presented, and I cannot give you assuarances that your grandfather will break new records in longevity, all I can tell you is that the only real thing you can do in the end is assure your living ancester matters, and mattered. we're all doing our best to turn the great cosmic wheel that is life on earth, and everything counts.

Don't judge your parents aunts and uncles for not letting him go, what did you expect them to do? smother him with a pillow? Just accept our reality, and that any passing isn't pleasant. few go in their sleep at the height of their success. and when they do, it's a shame from drugs or alcohaul. earth is brutal and sad, but also motivational when you consider our successes.

Dremels and their attachments and cutoff wheels are great to have, but you need to focus on rent and food at this point. do not go off the rails with your first real bank statement,

if you must spend, invest in angle grinder discs and such, not bitch hobby versions thereof. those are for later, when you've honed your talent enough to pay for such things. DO NOT SPEND EDUCATION MONEY ON NO-ESSENTIAL LUXURIES FOR A JOB YOU DO NOT HAVE!

angle grinders have everything an early welder needs, wire brush, grinder wheels, cutoff wheels etc etc, the rest is easy, mig tips, tig rods, brazing rods, rigs etc etc you can buy when you're being payed for your education.

be smart.

well i'm 19 so i still live with my mom and brother, who cover rent and food, and my dad has been paying for gas. so minus gas this is more just extra money.
not sure how much is left in the grant at this point though since i can't check, but it should still have plenty left over after all that because i got the max amount. if there isn't i'm just gonna stick to the essentials, not too big of an issue.

I'm sure it feels that way but again, it's you're first real pile-o-money
Be smart

If welding is gonna be your cash cow, save the big quality (FORUMS PREVENT QO-L)of life purchases for the cash you actually make welding. Be responsible, be smart. Learn how to use those devises sure. but PURCHASE THE BASICS!!!!@#!@!#!111!!!

yeah you're right, i'll stick to the basics, don't really need a drill or dremel immediately and apart from the essentials i listed, i have all of the tools i'll need for this semester.
what grinder would you recommend then? i've heard milwaukee makes some high quality grinders, although they're expensive even with the student discounts i get. the instructors have recommended just getting a cheap one from harbour freight for now and it'll last through at least a semester.
edit: there was also another brand that i've heard thrown around that also has really good reliability

Dewalt is kinda the default, but I really can't think of any shitty angle grinders, even the worst of them met the standard I expected for the price when I bought em new.
Just steer clear of pawn shop second hand deals that don't have a guard.

some people seem to fight saying guards get in the way of good detail work, but do not believe it, a brush end in particular can throw a needle in your eye and ruin your fucking life forever,

learn to do good detail work around a guard, don't let a bench grinder, or angle grinder fuck up your teeth or face or vision just because it felt easier or faster to go without it.

At least be comfortable with that rule for 2 years before you start bending it. I have bent the angle grinder guard rule exactly once since it threw a chuck of ceramic at my motherfucking face, and that rule bend, and that accident was about two years apart.
