It's a mix of 2D and 3D segments. Looks better than the actual movie series' CGI. I doubt they'd even do a series without CGI since it'd cost too much.

People whining about CGI is funny. I think if they lived way back when, they would also have whined when Colour television came out and whined how Black and White televisions and shows were far superior. Or even how dial pad phones are ridiculious and how rotary dial phones were superior.

Get with the times people. Depending on how the CGI is done, it can be equal or better to 2D animation. It is also far cheaper to make CGI animation, and less chance said studio will go bankrupt. 2D animation can just as easily end up crappy if a studio doesn't put proper work into it.

I got into anime because in the era of Two Stupid Dogs, PowerPuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, etc aka all the cheaply made shite that passed for late 90s cartoons there was Toonami with Tenchi, Gundam Wing, and... uhhh... Dragonball Z (for the fags) with art and animation that made me go "Holy fuck, cartoons that don't look like shit".

If I liked cheap shitty animation I would've stuck with CN's homebrewed barf.

I dunno gonna need a few more "not terrible" before I watch a cgi anime, reminds me of even lazier than power puff girls shit western cartoons started serving up when drawing anything at all got too hard for them.

Avoided the sidonia animation because I actually enjoyed that manga to bits.

PS, even with Sidonia's horrible CGI, go watch it, it was a pretty good anime, and you get used to its horrible, creepy, and scary CGI.

Weirdest thing were the mouths and strangely this made every character concealing or lacking a working mouth more appealing.
