That's a good point. I just wish there were fewer ones where it's someone desperately trying to rules lawyer their way out of one.

They're not inherently negative.
The things is that notes like these are basically a way to note down that a warning was given, and those are taken into account for further punishment (assuming they're not like more than 6 months). It's the warning that's being appealed, on the basis that they should not be punished based on what happened.
Of course this appeal is basically rules lawyering to the nth degree.

ive always maintained that notes (excluding like "xyz player did great in an event!" sort of notes) are generally going to be a bad thing for the player, they aren't inherently bad/negative but at the very least theyre a record of prior behavior which means if they repeat that behavior they will be banned all the harsher for it, which is fine. its good to establish a record of a players behavior so we dont get people like beardbeard. but in some cases notes may not cover the entire situation or may be wrong, making them unappealable is unfair to the players, considering having notes on your account can very easily lead to harsh punishments.

The rest of that post is spitballing ways to force assistants to play in a constructive way. Not coming up with more things for them to do and just expecting them to do it.

I'm not convinced it's possible, because in my experience greytiders tend to be people who have burned out on literally all of the game except the well, player to player interaction, and due to reasons of personality or filled slots have gravitated away from other roles built to fill that niche, like sec or service. I'm not convinced that just providing new content will fix any issues they produce. It strikes me as more of an administrative hurdle, especially since the admins have config for the knob we'd normally turn to try and push people away from this sort of thing.

notes are a punishment but you can freely play the game, go on forums, go on discord, etc. and are used to kick the can down the line for actual punishments like banning. Like getting pulled over and getting let off with a warning instead of a ticket. Notes are a terribly bad punishment if thats what they are.

that said not letting them be appealable is cringe since the whole point of them being public is so you can contest them. What I think should happen is that the format should include specifically what is factually incorrect or overzealous and if you cant explain that then you should take the L on the note.

I remember he protested somah's perma on the basis of the note being too vague and having no reference to the acts despite somah's repeated issues being known to everyone by that point.

the lessons i learned was 1. starting a conflict over insuls isn't a valid reason to start a conflict that escalates to violence and 2. you cannot continue the conflict after being crit
