I didn't think Admin Banbaiting could be a thing

this is the equivalent of putting a giant mystery box in front of a bunch of 5 year olds and telling them not to touch it
what in the world were you actually expecting to happen?

you're allowed to touch it / engage with admin events, you just can't complain when you end up on the wrong side of that interaction kendrick, it's just like how if you see some cops arresting someone and you run up on the scene and get tased for interfering, you can't sue them even though their lights were super shiny.

also, 5 year olds get punished for their bad behaviours, that's how they learn to be adults.

since it was an event, it could have been handled IC though?

arent most event happenings handled through IC?

couldn't sec have been like "hey that random assistant just unleashed the radioactive death spiders, we should do something about him"

I just don't like the way the whole thing smells

1.) sending a crate full of supermatter anything to a place like Terry after loudly and proudly announcing it to the entire shift
2.) placing it out in the open in arrivals

It definitely could have been handled IC except that I wanted to punish the bad behaviour and deter them from doing the same thing again.

Handling it IC is fine as long as you're ok with it happening again.

It was literally guarded by an armed escort, two or three security officers and the Captain. The guy spawned a bunch of distraction monkeys then shoved and pepper sprayed his way past them to get to the crate. It never even left the shuttle.

Yeah, this was a poor event that probably amounted to Stickymayhem intentionally baiting Terry players. Any event that only engages a small amount of the crew is bad and invites people to mess with it. Especially if there's some central mystery they want to know the answer to. Come up with an event that isn't just a binary between blind obedience to you and nothing interesting happening or disobeying you, creating fun and getting punished for it.

It was a good event and I'll do it again and again.

It involved the entire security team and the Captain, had they transported it it would involve science as well. The players had control over how many specimens they would accept, and antagonists could have worked to disrupt this at any point.

Any of the several traitors on board could have decided to try and intercept the package of fuck with xenobiology. It is the perfect kind of event, one that introduces a new variable for players to engage with as much or as little as they want.

If you aren't responsible enough to follow the rules, you'll be banned and you don't deserve to be here. If you can't avoid touching the hot stove, you'll get burned. It's really that simple. I don't care what the ADHD-riddled dopamine starved players who only interact with the game through maximizing their negative impact on a round want.

The event was only uninteresting because a single player took it upon themselves to make it uninteresting. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. You screech that "EVENTS ARE BAD" then you do everything in your power to disrupt and destroy anything that gets offered to you.

I know you were probably just trying to make the round more interesting sticky, but events (or anything) in ss13 never goes according to plan
if you want to do events you need to learn to fucking roll with the punches
ss13 is LITERALLY ABOUT NOTHING GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN

this MIGHT have flown on a MRP or HRP server but its terry for christ sake

if anything YOU should be disciplined for spawning a crate full of shit capable of killing players and then acting all fucking surprised when it gets opened

I'm not going to lower my expectations to the worst players. I'm not going to set the precedent that events are griefable.

You are talking about Terry behaviour as if it's an immutable characteristic and not something we can shape with bans exactly like this one.

It's weak.

How about instead of punishing people for not preforming exacting how you want them to for a shitty event we could start punishing admins for making shitty events.

On one hand, I don't like this self-entitled ape behavior to crash and destroy every event before it even begins. Particularly, I take issue when these so called robustos abuse the fact that security can't pre-emptively knock their asses out, just imagine the unhinged crying and shaking if the guys in red were playing on the same terms. Bunch of entitled babies.

On the other hand, it's kind of lame to bring a weapon of mass destruction to the station, and not have anyone actually trigger it. Especially Terry needs WMDs every round, just to discipline the local populace, or what's left of it afterwards.

I think, the situation worked out perfectly in the end: The person that I don't like got banned, Terry had an MWD shipped to it and it got activated, and the admin that did it got away with it. I'm OK with this arrangement, hehe!

if you wanted antagonists to interfere with it then you should have just sent syndicate messages to traitors privately you ding dong. or actually properly label what's inside

i have seen like 20 different admin events spawning in something HIGHLY DANGEROUS DO NOT TOUCH and the punch is that the only person getting harmed is yourself if anyone at all. if this was ran on manuel with the exact same parameters i can assure you someone would have opened it

For real though, if IC, Centcomm tells you "DANGER DO NOT OPEN", it's basically expected that someone will open it. In fact, I would suspect that the admin that placed the box WANTS someone to open it for laughs and chaos.

I don't know the full situation though. Maybe it was more nuanced.

This seems to happen a lot on Terry. I'm not following that up with anything, y'all make your own conclusions.

E: As far as events where we're trying to get you to do something through reverse psychology, we usually try to make doing that thing relatively easy for you.

Everybody reducing this to "do not touch" is lame.

It was specified that opening it would kill everybody on the station.

This isn't the same as a vague do not touch.

Everybody reducing this to "somebody touched it" is also lame.

They minmax botany, spammed monkeys, then used the distraction to steal pepper spray and then used that to down the entire security+captain team so they could b-line to the special item they wanted to own.

Even without the event, it sounds like they are exhibiting the exact behavior that old rule 3 was meant to cover and ban.

Sticky banned me for 15 minutes once cuz i sprayed "fagmin event dont touch" around his event thing and the mime ran up and labeled it "the big gay". It was a short ban and warranted cuz i broke ic in ooc rule but it was still funnier to get banned over it than interacting with it in the manner sticky wanted me to do it. Regardless i dont hold a grudge over this particular event

The prompt for the event seems pretty hamfisted however the dynamics it (potentially) created sound interesting enough. As an admin I wouldn't have ran this exact sort of thing since it would have been pretty obvious to me how it would turn out, however it's also obvious that if you play a stupid game you are going to win a stupid prize. Surprised this dude even appealed, it's definitely not going to be lifted.

if you want to do events you need to learn to fucking roll with the punches
ss13 is LITERALLY ABOUT NOTHING GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN

this MIGHT have flown on a MRP or HRP server but its terry for christ sake

if anything YOU should be disciplined for spawning a crate full of shit capable of killing players and then acting all fucking surprised when it gets opened
LRP is not NRP. If you're told something will kill everyone on station, ignore the label on the box, and do it, after incapacitating the entire Security and Command team to get to it, then you have noone to blame except for yourself.

Edit: People act like it's just banbaiting or going to be super boring because noone can touch it, but given LRP's rules allowing murderboning, if an antag touched it and set them free, it'd be fine and an interesting dynamic. There were a lot of opportunities for it to be messed with, it just should've been done by someone who was ALLOWED to commit/cause mass death.

Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

Even without the event, it sounds like they are exhibiting the exact behavior that old rule 3 was meant to cover and ban.

i think you missed the "even without the event part".

Edit: their event conduct was banned under rule 1, and rule 9.

All our rules boil down to not being a dick anyway in terms of the standard rules and manuel specific rules are just a different flavor and definition of what being a dick is so it doesn't really matter if there isn't something explicitly written if an admin can justify banning you for your behaviour being detrimental or if you are acting as a "dick", that being said I didn't even read the complaint or what happened so LOL
