This was just a shitty event. I don't understand why they couldn't have just been normal giant spiders, or a bunch of headcrabs, or literally anything that's not "haha you die instantly, fuck you for opening the box".
Even with instant death being clear in the announcements(which can be easily misunderstood by the average player) and on the box itself(which is very easy to miss because, who examines a box?), the best outcome would be that the box gets put into the supermatter chamber(or never gets opened) so that all the spiders get ashed or are at very least contained in a very safe area, which is kinda boring. the worst outcome is what happened- some shitter opens the box early outside of containment and gets a couple people ashed.
There are people in SS13 who love dying in ridiculous, over the top ways, and you set out the perfect bait for those people.

if you're a non antag, you're a normal employee of a company, working on their property in space. A bit like you might go to an office and do some weird interesting job that isn't just office work. as ever, the actions make zero sense for this role. it really isn't that complicated.

We've been called worse things by prepubescent catgirls in the metastation bar. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Whop take it as a challenge when they tell us we can't open box. Our obsession with involving ourselves in every event as non-antag even after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

I stand by my word that roleplay is the infinite content generator. I've been playing this game nearly a decade. The mechanics do not appeal to me except where they intersect with the social game. I only play roles that generate interactions. That includes my infamous paperhop.
