Welcome to Space Station 13

Welcome to Space Station 13, the place where some players have the weird desire to be allowed to indirectly tell the Admin Team to kill themselves, and then harass the admin in question when their "freedom of speech" is limited!

Image

If you disagree with a note/ban, please appeal it. If your only way to show your disagreement with it is through the OOC Chat, maybe you're coping over a nothing burger. Regarding this one, maybe I would change it to something that shows how they were directing it towards the Admin Team if appealed, which would surely add a special light to it.

I personally don't give two living fucks about what people say about me, but other admins might be heavily discouraged from doing their well-done, ungrateful job because of this kind of toxic behavior. So I'd like to bring attention to this kind of shit. One or two comments might seem like nothing, but they can impact others, so think twice before saying this kind of crap. It's kinda childish ngl

On one hand, yelling at centcom is funny. On the other hand, bitching about not being allowed to yell at centcom is lame.
Therefore this image and thread are karmically neutral.

Yelling at CentCom is funny when you're not very obviously referring to the Admin Team and quite literally saying "kill yourself". I applied the note, so I'm 100% aware of the context and it wasn't really that funny: it was a copium moment leading to a "kys"
That is not the point of the thread tho. The point is simply "Be a bit more compassionate towards admins"

I think doing something like this is kind of sucky, like sure- you can take an issue(or in this case not) with what they said to you and that's absolutely fine but why not bring it up in admin-bus? Feels like this is made 4 drama

What do you think the player's club is for? It's all drama and occasional RP.

I feel like some of you guys completely missed the point...

This was not a venting post (and, even if it was, admins are players too). I didn't bring it up in admin-bus because my point was never about this scenario in specific; I literally have nothing to do with the QC ban. I wanted to raise some awareness about toxicity toward admins and hopefully make some people understand that admins are people too, and that it's not cool to be dickheads to them fnr. I've been inactive quite a lot in the past few weeks and today I took a chunk of my time off to do some jannie work, just to see this crap, so only God knows what it looks like on a daily basis. I'm not sure if this post will bring some clarity to some people, but it seems like it's completely flying over the heads of everyone, based on the replies.

More then understand ya, while I make it a point to dunk on people who ask for more respect because they volunteer their time to admin I do appreciate ya for doing what admins do. Now that being said just because you choose to volunteer your time doesn't mean you get any extra respect then I'd offer the random greytide besides that tip of the hat at the end of the last sentence. You already get powers to mess around with the game and give people timeouts you don't get to hide behind rule 1 while you do it. If I got this note I'd be flaming you as well, maybe if it was framed as "don't spam centcom" but even then I feel like that opens one up to tactical bombing rather then bwoinking(the same way if one spammed /pray they open themselves up to divine retribution(obviously if they keep it up afterwards bwoinking becomes an option)). Telling people to kill themselves is cool, fun and honestly should be done more. If you see Zion in the hallway or medical feel free to tell me to kill myself because I probably deserve it.

Every individual that lays their hands on this game is protected by rule 1. I generally try to be very lenient when it comes to applying punishments (if any are applied at all) if I am the "victim" (and often I try to not be the one dealing with those scenarios, if they're dealt with at all). Admins are not privileged supermen; they're players with access to tools in order to keep the game flowing smoothly, and so they have the same base rights as any player (being protection by rule 1 one of them). Having access to powers to mess around with the game and give people timeouts doesn't change any of that. Basically, no one is asking for extra respect; it's literally the same respect as every other player.
Boot wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 2:22 am If I got this note I'd be flaming you as well, maybe if it was framed as "don't spam centcom" but even then I feel like that opens one up to tactical bombing rather then bwoinking(the same way if one spammed /pray they open themselves up to divine retribution(obviously if they keep it up afterwards bwoinking becomes an option)). I feel like this is the moment where we'll have to agree to disagree. If that really is your opinion regarding telling others to kill themselves, then, from an individual point of view, I can't really blame you; but do keep in mind that that's not exactly what we advocate for. Telling a character to kill themselves is fine, and eventually funny depending on the scenario (like A telling B to kill themselves over reciting WGW, and B proceeding to suicide (real case, witnessed it, pretty funny)). Telling another player to kill themselves is not cool or fun; you don't know what the other person might be going through while simply trying to enjoy their time while playing a video game.

If you wanna discuss this note in specific, this is clearly not a "fuck centcom", this is a "fuck admins". Furthermore, tactical bombing is funny in the moment, but doesn't lead to any long-term changes; bwoinking is not funny in the moment, but does lead to long-term changes.

So I wanna break this up into two parts.
If there are players who I got a meta-grudge with and I tell them to kill themself and I don't just mean john shitter but Ckey:xxXJohnShitterXxx then I still think that's cool. Just the same as if someone said B00t should rather then Zion should, its water off a ducks ass for me.

However, part two, if you are going to make a distinction here why did you take it personally?
► Show Spoiler
See when I read this right, I'm not seeing "Admin should kill himself" but "game entity centcom should kill itself".

I sure do bet they suddenly ascended into a state of higher being and started roleplaying for a total of 10 seconds. I didn't really take it personally (I don't even know who force-recalled it), because I sincerely don't care in a personal way, but it's very obviously targeted at the admins out of rage, and that's not cool (even if you personally believe otherwise)

Wait what why is it obvious. This is what I meant when I was talking about hiding behind rule one here. If you think that there is a difference between attacking the character and attacking the man(behind the slaughter) then you kinda gotta have a better idea the this yeah?

Did you just see someone say "fuck centcom" and go "yep they are attacking the admins". What's the proper way of displaying negative feelings towards admin behavior in your mind?

I sincerely don't know how to explain it on a more elemental level, and I don't get at all what your question is
Boot wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 5:24 am Did you just see someone say "fuck centcom" and go "yep they are attacking the admins". What's the proper way of displaying negative feelings towards admin behavior in your mind?
We're derailing from the main point, which is toxic behavior towards the admin team in a general way (and not the note referred to), but not telling them to kill themselves is a good starter. You may express your opinion regarding an admin's conduct on their feedback subforum (though this one is often underused and disliked) or point it out to them (publically or privately) over Discord. You may also ahelp expressing your negative feelings or saying with which points you disagree. If you don't wanna give feedback, but rather just want to cuss at us, you can cuss at CentCom, sure, but don't break rule 1 in the process, especially if you are not roleplaying hatred for CentCom, but just projecting your salt towards admins

I think telling CC to do the deed is over the line. But I'm torn to an extent over this. I've told characters to kill themselves ingame and used slurs ingame in a non player directed way and have like 3 notes for it. If I wanna be lynched IC for using a slur or telling someone to do it I think that's emergent gameplay.

Afaik, there isn't a straight forward ruling regarding telling others to kill themselves, but what I mentioned is what I have noticed to be the general opinion of the admin team. I will take a look at your notes and see what's going on there. Maybe it's this term that we get a kys policy discussion lul

first and foremost: why are you like this.

i think this thread is just a circle jerk. like realistically here what is the conversation to be had here. you are posting about people being shitheads and going My Job Is Difficult. like c’mon. act like a god damn professional

perhaps mean isn’t the exact right word. i think threads like this are simply toxic- beyond it being incredibly immature. it makes for a toxic environment. gives me Twitter Callout vibes.

there’s no real segue into this but i feel like i need to clarify before people just start seeing red and start assuming that i support people being dumbasses: lmfao qc ban get dumpstered dumbass.

there’s no real segue into this but i feel like i need to clarify before people just start seeing red and start assuming that i support people being dumbasses: lmfao qc ban get dumpstered dumbass.
I see where you're coming from, but that's not the point of the thread. I could've just dropped the thread and locked it, and all the purpose I wanted it to have would have been done (which prob would've been better ngl but oh well, too late now). My point was for people to see how this kind of behavior can feel like a joke(?) in the moment but it's not supposed to happen in the first place, and how the whole "Sometimes players are overly mean to admins and that leads to admin burnout" is real, and has to be toned down. If you see that as a "My Job Is Difficult", then sure, I guess

If I wanted to cancel them, I'd ping the Headmins in bus

All I'm doing is reading what you wrote bro. Also, c'mon, your latest posts on the players club have been little more than "this thread sucks" or trying to spam.

It becomes hard to assume good intentions after the third or fourth time.

Job? We're not getting paid lol

But that's a petty comment. To address your concern: it's only "toxic" and a "circle-jerk" if you build upon this imaginary dumb wall of "players vs admins". If anyone is seeing red, they're the problem.

I honestly think this comes from some sort of "priviledge" admins get from seeing behind the tools. The only distinction from players and admins, funwise, is we get to make events which are supposed to be fun both to players and to admins, so everyone wins. I've said before, having part of being an admin ban people and deal with salty tickets and appeals is not what someone applying to be an admin or getting invited should have their hands on their dicks for.

Just 'cos someone becomes an admin doesn't mean they immediately get succeptible to players breaking rules against them. Heck, we have conduct guidelines explicitly saying that admins aren't supposed to respond to tickets that they are involved in in-game; which implies they can get involved in those tickets.

So going "'players that vent for any reason' is the same as 'an admin just posted about someone telling them to kill themselves and is asking that players don't do that on the players club'" is a mean, toxic circlejerk is silly methinks.

OP could have been phrased better but honestly I think we'd be better off if more ppl were upfront ab negative elements of the community such as this. My natural reaction would have been to just shrug it off and quietly let it bother me but that wouldn't help anything, so 👍

you are straight up just trolling me. what do you mean after the third or fourth time of me “trying to spam”? what do you even mean by “im just reading what you wrote” and then immediately say that you’re bad faith reading my intentions? like thats why i said “why are you like this” because it felt bad faith.

i personally don't care about players venting about badmin behaviour in all honesty they should be entitled to it and not expect to get dumpstered and have to smile about it.

but we have to draw a line somewhere and i am adamantly against telling other users to hurt themselves. this is not taking an easy moral high ground it's from having users on my friends list that i will never be able to talk to again because they aren't alive anymore.

please be kinder to each other over a video game, this is unnecessary.
