You know, when I first started playing the game, I had actually already a bit of a comprehensive grasp of how to do quite a few different mechanics because I had spent a good deal of time learning through the sources that introduced me to the game. I sat and watched hours of Tex playing the game before ever joining a round (I was literally fangirling so hard when he showed up in a round one day and I saw myself in one of his videos)

I have to wonder; had I, an extremely fresh byond account, been questioned about how I seemingly knew how to do chemistry very early on in my time playing; do you think the admin would buy it if I said 'I have spent a week watching Tex make the exact same tricordrazine mix, which he would verbally spell out as he clicked the buttons, over and over because I'm that autistic' as an excuse?

This ban now has me thinking about that a little more.

the book links to the wiki page to robotics.

The page does not say how to do surgery to remove a brain, but gives a separate link.

If in the logs this person stops moving or doing any other actions after opening the book for a while, or pauses for a while before doing the surgery, then I would believe him.

I watched a bunch of videos about the game before I had my first round, had the keybinds up on my second screen, and always had the wiki open for Surgery and Robotics when I first got started.

This meant that within my first couple days, I was able to put a mech out in literal minutes because I was copying off the page, same with the surgeries.

Very quickly, the muscle memory started kicking in and I didn't need the pages anymore.

I believe the guy. It's entirely possible that he's ban evading, but I don't think this should be our evidence for it.

My first few rounds involved me hitting myself with random items, panicking 'cos people asked me questions and I didn't know how to respond and at least once spacing myself.

The second (is this even a thing?) few rounds involved not doing my job properly. Surgery is the type of stuff that you need to know where to look for when you haven't memorized the steps.

There's a chance dude is just way smarter than me and asked questions on round 222093 as an MD. Then again, that was his second round, and he should still be struggling to press X to swap hands.

This is a good question and it could either be 'cos he found it funny that he hit himself in the head with the book and took a screenshot to show a friend, or was some 5-head that knew he was gonna get banned and did it on purpose.

Did y'all forget to take your crazy meds today? The ban likely took place as the player was playing, since the player mentioned how he was responding to admin PMs. There is this magic trick where you scroll up after the ban is given (it only disconnects you, not closes the window) and take screenshots of the relevant logs for the appeal. Admins and peanut posters hate this one neat trick!

I'm not in the habit of getting banned, sorry.

Evidently you're not in the habit of being familiar with how your own admin tools work either. :honkman:

Even if you read up on the game a lot, there are still going to be many tells in a round that you are new or not new. Idk if it shows in logs though

I mean the new player guide and wiki are linked on the same page you need to be to find the servers and the wiki links to guides.

Some players prepare a lot. I read the whole 169 page manual for Nucleares before I started playing.

Before I started ss13, I watched videos on it and read guides, I knew how to do a LOT of things when starting so why are you so hard on this guy?

What a twist! I did not expect to find myself involved in this story.

In retrospect, I now recognise the name Jovius... I remember seeing this guy in a Centcom cell for allegedly forceborging a chemist, which is coherent with the original post.

So let me see if I got this straight: this guy logs on, grabs a random corpse, borgs him, gets banned, gets unbanned, then logs on, starts random fights, fails at gaslighting the crew when being arrested, makes a new account, wordlessly attacks me, gets cuffed, ghosts, makes another new account, follows me around, bombs the bridge, and gets permabanned within 24 hours of being unbanned? You can't make this shit up.

I'm glad we gave him the chance in the first place because he could have been genuine and it would suck for someone innocent, if he had been, to get caught in it.

And also we gave him more rope to hang himself with and now it's a much more compelling case.

Second chances are cheap.

Third chances are not.

To respond to something that is technically my own appeal peanut, I bet you 100 dollars that he took the 6head approach of reading it way before he was pinged

lol i don't particularly have a strong opinion of if he's actually evading or not. maybe the dude is. I just found it funny that not one, but two people thought having this screenshot for a ban appeal was some clever gotcha like scrolling hasn't been a thing on the internet for ages
