It appears that drone laws and subsequent policy might need changes. I propose that we forbid drones from interacting with sentient beings only, instead of living things. This also means that interacting with borgs will be forbidden, under the previous laws, this was unclear.

Besides, all this means is that drones can do xenobio or mining, maybe milk a few cows, etc. There will be issues regarding simple mobs that gain sentience via pink slime extract or the random sentience event. But, they can always kill the drone, or say something which will let the drone know that the mob is sentient.

Thoughts?

I'd be more comfortable with people quoting me if I was backed up, this is how I interpreted the policy and a headmin may disagree so don't take what I say as 100% truth

I'm fairly certain most admins would agree but I'd rather cover my ass and make it clear that's just what I understand to be the case

Apart from the drones' OOC instructions not to intefere in the round, the drone has IC instructions not to interfere with non-drone beings. Bringing such a being into function/life is clearly interfering with beings. There's a reason we don't allow drones to clone people.

What of simple mob robots? building cleanbots and floorbots help the drone do what it is supposed to do, healbots and secbots might be pushing it however.

Drones can't mess with or even see simple mob bots for a reason.

Is there a formal ruling on drones communicating with non-drones that can speak/understand drone language, such as pAIs and the curator?

I recall statements before that it's kosher for a drone to have a pAI buddy as long as they don't mess around with anybody, but this was long ago and I'm unsure if that applies today (Or if it ever really did)

My personal opinion is that it'd be best for the sake of fun that drones can speak with them if they like, but cannot reveal round-affecting information (For instance, no ratting out antags, no pointing out sabotage, etc), and of course, cannot involve themselves in their affairs as usual. Curator friend begging to be pulled to safety while being murdered? Drone (262) chitters, "Sorry bro, no can do."

I'd like to get an official ruling on this.

MSO ruled that pAIs are not beings, and interacting with them is fine.

Talking to a curator is interacting with a being.

I suppose you can talk *at* someone but not *to* someone.

admins will give you the benefit of the doubt 9/10 times you're doing something that isn't harmful and is entertaining (the time a drone hid in a locker and came out firing cap guns once comes to mind) but that's dangerously close to something that isn't okay, imo

Sorry, meant with.

Talking with a curator would still be interacting, no?

I generally meme with them like asking for hats and being very cross with them when they say no.

Generally just trying not to interfere with the round but still be entertaining.

Satiating a drone's hatlust is a full time job anyway.

Yeah and it's still breaking your laws.

Although I'll blame coders for that since giving the curator drone language is just ban bait for drones.

I don't even know how it makes sense for curators to know drone language IC

Perhaps there should be a difference between being able to understand certain languages and being able to speak them.

Loosely related, but I think we should make it impossible for drones to pull humanoid mobs.

Yes, unless you're actively stealing it from someone else trying to use it
