so I am just making a thread about this for clarity reasons
As many of you know, Ian Smith is automatically valid wherever he is. Still, I have noticed that people have taken advantage of this validness to torture me for many of the offenses that I do once I put on my gray suit. That's completely fine, but I just want to know when is this acceptable and when I can get my ass banned because of it.

The only reason I ask this question is that I have had my legs/arms removed at least 5 times by captains, Hops, wardens, etc in the past two months. Personally, I believe this is acceptable conduct given the situation but since this is completely at the discretion of the person and possibly the admin if they receive an ahelp about it. From this question, I want to ask: How much torture is too much and when is it acceptable?

I will provide you with an example (I will not say names)

As I have said before, I understand that this is acceptable and I can laugh about it. However, I thought about it myself and I felt that this is something that I believe I would not reasonably do since I thought I would get banned because of it. What do you all believe is the current stance about it?

yeah it's pretty hilarious the way you describe it but that hop is shit anyway unless this is like you have a special relationship with them and this is how they show affection to you

If the situation allowed them to just kill you outright, torture is probably fine. So long as they don't use it to play out some erotic torture fantasy it will probably come under a slightly more imaginative way of killing you or keeping you in the round.

It comes down to whether or not you deserved to have your limbs removed to the point you are effectively out of the round. They wouldn't bother playing the whole thing out if you ghost/suicide when they rev up their torture memes so you have the option to opt out even if you are valid for torture. I think my favorite torture was when I was traitorino Engineer throwing people into the super matter engine, then I got caught after killing two heads of staff and the Warden decided to surgically replace my heart with a manual one and slowly pump my blood. They also removed my eyes and ears or something and were trying to get me to feel bad for killing the Captain. I think in the end the other heads demanded I be executed before the shuttle arrived.

You don't have to put up with being tortured so there is at least that. If it crosses the line too much for you, you could always see if a admin agrees but I think most the time it's more interesting to see how it plays out. You can always just ghost out as pussy as that is. Nothing is forcing anyone to sit through it.

Cloning people just to torment them seems a bit too far, since it means they have to just sit and watch without a thing to do when they could have been playing a ghost role and the killer could have fun mutilating their remains anyways.

You can succumb while being cloned. If they keep trying to clone you still, they'll end up with a bunch of limbless bodys of your character.

why do we even have policy discussion? it's usually a guy getting banned/offended that an admin IC issued something, making a policy discussion over something very situational, and then it rarely changes how admins act, or headmins will just confirm that what admins have been doing is right. it's very rare that there will be two identical situations in this game, so admins have to use their own discretion when dealing with shit.

If someone is being hostile and malicious you are allowed to be hostile and malicious back to them as long as its vaguely proportionate, dismemberment falls into the same vague framework as all other retaliation

However, if you opt for the psycho torture route in place of normal prison sentences and other sane methods of conflict resolution it will be an IC issue if they kill you in retaliation

Look this game is a roleplaying game and a time sink.

Ultimately meaning, the sink of time is for fun.

And the only thing people want, is to get fun.

And the motivator to cooperate and play is to ultimately make a decision to reduce the float in the critical path of having fun.

a big sentence is bloat.
death is bloat.

and you want the fun in the shortest amount of time - taking the critical path - powergaming.

but sometimes, someone outplays you and gets their fun - you. And that's your bloat. they're delaying the fun.

So you have a choice - help them, you roleplay, you agree, and you do whatever you need to do to reduce the bloat so you can have fun again.

Or, you end your pursuit for fun, and forfeit it.
