Vampire Policy

Just the name of this thread makes me feel like I've made a terrible mistake but here goes anyway

First of all you are not an antagonist just from being a vampire. You are a normal crewmember, with normal escalation rules. However since you have a unique mechanic that pressures you to commit crime out of necessity rather than random griefing, I thought I would clarify how vampires fit into our rules around non antag violence.

-You can drain (small) amounts of blood from unwilling targets as a non antagonist. This is obviously treated as an attack that they can use deadly force for. Sucking the blood of the clown > the clown toolboxes you > you kill the clown would be kill baiting. If you make a good faith effort to escape and the clown keeps following you murderously it isn't killbaiting to use further violence to defend yourself.

-You should use willing donors, monkeys, blood from medbay, sabumatol, etc but if all of that fails and you've made an honest attempt to get blood non harmfully you can attack and even kill others to keep yourself alive. Think of it like a space suit in a breach. You can't usually just kill someone for their space suit and you're expected to try other methods of survival first, but its down to the wire and you're on the depressurized shuttle in transit with no way out you're allowed to violently take someones suit to stay alive. Same deal with blood.

Again I feel very silly having to write policy for a silly Halloween event but several people have expressed concern about this so I thought I may as well do it before the ban appeals.

EDIT: As a note to admins I am fully aware and even looking forward to this causing mass non antag violence so please do not get too worked up at players when it happens. Resource management and departments mattering enough to warrant maintaining/repairing are not things we often get to see in game, and being able to cause part of the crew to go feral when you take out medbay sounds like a fun traitor dynamic to me, not something to be actively discouraged. Might end up tedious/obnoxious instead, but it is only for a few days.

link this page somewhere or put it in the motd

even that hurts, we shouldn't need policy just for a special halloween role but here we are

We seriously need a protected wiki page (linked to from the rules page) to start tracking stuff like this

yeah, either a section on the rules page or a new page like you mention, because it's a little hard to keep track of these policy things even as an admin

Coding feedback here, seems odd that you can't drain corpses but you can still extract their blood and consume it with syringes/iv drips

let's also be real we need this policy for when

a) vampires show up when they shouldn't due to a bug or
b) vampires show up when they shouldn't due to admins meming and/or players begging for TC trades until admins give in

Being able to transform into a bat and then ventcrawl into the armory and steal all the stuff then ventcrawl out again is pretty OP.
Also being able to turn into a bat to get out of stuns and ventcrawl away is too.
