meta-retardation and murderboning

Following reading this post here on digg led me to ask on discord whether such behaviour even is allowed, and from the responses there it seemed like consensus was that you are allowed to roleplay to the effect that your imagined valids are real valids.

So this leads to the natural followup question: An incompetent engineer forgetting to wear mesons gets a possible free pass to murderbone every round?

Discuss.

"My character is insane" has never been and will never be a good justification for murder as a non-antag
if you are antag then cool do whatever you want

But if the hallucinations give you justification for killing someone, isn't that just playing along with what the game gives you?

What roundid? This is a policy discussion thread. I'm about 90% certain the digg thread I linked was actually a troll. And stop calling me a nerd it's very rude.

man, what a thread
literally just read the rules and you'll know that no, you're not allowed to just murder people and roleplay it off with "im insane lol"

If you don't actually know what hallucinations are they can be pretty tricky. The worst I ever fell for was as a virologist. I'm hanging out in my lab not really paying attention to much and the captain comes to visit me (weird). About 30 seconds into talking to him I get the "you feel a little prick" hallucination, so I figure he's camo-kit'd as captain and killed me with a pen. I get a lucky disarm stun and things go downhill for him. I figure out he was legit and then start a struggle of fixing what I did without ended up dead.

Yeah, I've had some honest confusions too at times, especially during the mass-hallucination events, but that's just a funny thing that can sometimes happen.
This thread relates to people who are actually fully aware that they are hallucinating but decide to be meta-retarded and take the hallucinations as facts to act upon, to which there seem to be quite varying interpretations on whether it's allowed or not.

But it's not as easy as just "im insane", it's the fact that the game chat literally told you that the [random person] is a [ling/traitor/cult/whatever antag].

If you're not allowed to act on your hallucinations without getting banned then why have them in the first place? ???

why does this thread exist

dont murder people because "lol im insane"

we should think about changing the way hallucinations appear so people don't make mistakes though

I assume most people alive took reading in 5th grade and learned how to use context clues to conclude they are either hallucinating or that the person they are attacking/killed is or is not an antagonist and then proceed accordingly

Yeah, we don't want any conflicts due to information do we? We might even have NON ANTAGS fighting each other.

But seriously though, sometimes hallucinations just get you, I've shouted ROGUE AI and geared up to breach its core because I suddenly got shocked by several doors before realizing it was due to staring at the supermatter.

It sounds like the guy on digg was new and has a shakey grasp of both the mechanics and rules. You arent allowed to kill everyone for rping crazy. People might die as the result of confusion and misdirection though.
