Revising the Naming Policy.

Due to our current naming policy being abit hazy for both admins and players, I am suggesting a new updated policy here.

Where the current naming policy is no titles, required name formats, meme names being valid.
Although this naming policy is never heard of by any of our players I have spoke to with about the naming policy.
I think It'd be good to discuss a new naming policy

Names would have to be a somewhat realistic name for someone in a wacky space station setting.
Hidden meanings in names would be allowed if spelt like a regular name, example ; Sauk Micuoc.

Names with titles based off age, or career would be allowed, such as Sir, Miss, or Dr. and Professor.
Titles regarding rank or position such as King, Lord, Duke, etc would not be allowed.
CM style nicknames would continue to be not allowed.

Humans would continue to be Firstname Lastname, Lizards would follow their 1, 2, or 3 word names still.
Plasmamen would continue to be element roman numeral. Flypeople continue to be their fly pun names.
And with the addition of moths, Moth names would be like human/fly people, regular names or with a pun related to their race.

Meme names like Adolf Hitler, Donald Trump, or those alike would continue to be valid to abuse.
If an admin believes your name to be unrealistic or unfitting of the policy they would ask for you to change it, in which you should and have you any issue with this, just change your name and speak with a headmin after as to not cause drama.

I'd like some thoughts and discussion on this topic, and If it's seen as an improvement to roleplay, the community or perhaps a more lax policy that all agree with, I will speak with headmins if they do not voice their opinions here to update the policy.
Edit: And to find a place somewhere on the actual rules page to place the decision since that is a major issue that causes the naming policy not being known.

You can't say "This is for an improvement to roleplay" and keep the "verbs the noun" name format.

That's the most immersion breaking shit lmao

What would you see as a way to improve this?

I... don't see a meaningful difference between this and the naming policy we have right now.

'Excessively OOC names fall under rule 3. Make a minimum effort to have your name fit in a setting involving a wacky space station in the future. A firstname lastname minimum is required and no honorifics are allowed. Nicknames in the middle are ok. Admins may get involved if your name is dumb and can approve or disallow names at their discretion while ingame. ' is what we have already

we could let players add dr or whatever it aint no big thing

Nice policy

If a moth doesn't have a moth-related pun for a name, they should be valid.

You cannot guarantee your role. This would either need to come with the role or not at all.
I once met a janitor in real life who actually was a medical doctor.

Policy is like a pearl. Against the tiny foreign body the oyster builds up layer upon layer of words and ends up with a bigger hassle than it started with.

verb-the-noun for lizards is a tolerated custom, headmins could revoke it any time and enforce regular reptilian names only like those you get when you click "random name" in lizard character creation

We don't need draconian rules (pun intended) about lizard names, the verb-the-noun format is zany and fun. Admins can use common sense and warn/kick those who use vulgar or unacceptable names instead of banning the format altogether

I think they're fine as long as liggers are treated like liggers. If they wanna be treated like people they need names that aren't degenerate

Don't see what is wrong with titles, personally. If being noble (or having delusions that you are) is part of your backstory, what is the harm in that? At least they're putting some sort of effort and care into their characters.

really it seems silly to me to moderate anything that isnt excessively OOC, the game takes place in scifi land 500 years in the future where clowns and mimes are their own alien race and people are corporate slaves cloned and recloned every day so they never have to stop working

Pretty sure those are all valid names Duke can even be a first name.

Duke Prince King is a character I use rarely and the name while silly is absolutely a name matching naming policy none of it is tittles.

Why would people even get confused by non professional titles? It's a sci fi game no one is expecting a totally legit bunch of knights of nanotrasia to all named Sir suchandsuch charge though the halls on horseback.

Maybe we need elves who are an even lower socio-economic group than lizards. Stupid knife-ears.

I'm a little conflicted on this issue. It's kinda silly to think that there's an established policy on the names of sprites in a 2D space-themed autism simulator. On the other hand, seeing 2 guys named "Big Faggot" in the same round is also kinda silly.

Did admins ever reach a conclusion on this? I personally think that at least honorifics would greatly add to the atmosphere more than they take away from it. Having a Lawyer with the post-nominal Esquire title like "John Smith Esq." or a Ph.D. scientist called "Doctor Jane Doe" would just open up more roleplaying possibilies and probably be quite welcomed from a majority of the playerbase.

Naming policy is bikeshedding to make us feel less helpless about encouraging roleplay
