Solidarity with Cup Cake.

I thought outlandish was fine as long as it followed the firstname lastname format? This is a pretty well established precident

I'm gonna create a catgirl named Cupcakes N Frosting to bait an appearance ban then in my ban appeal use the Navy Seal meme to upgrade into a forum ban

This is really obvious but debating what could or could not be a real name when it is not completely blatant OOC like your example is so absurd and pointless because we will never in a hundred years reach a consensus.

Maybe Cup Cake's mother was an infirm schizophrenic that collected drinking glasses to the point of hoarding and they become her one and only joy in a wretched and miserable life. Maybe she wanted to impart that joy onto her daughter in her christening even though to the rest of the galaxy she was just a psychotic old coot with too much glassware.

If future president of the United States Kanye West can name his kid North West, then a player in the spessman game can name their catgirl character Cup Cake.

i agree except there are some names that just trigger me like Ostrava of Nanotrasen which is the single worst name ever

People with fun and silly names are a danger to society and they have to be stopped at any cost

A name like that could invite some fun in-game admin shenanigans where Nanotrasen sends a squad of patent trolls ERTs to arrest them and drag them back to centcomm to try them for trademark infringement.

The problem is you can define Nigger Killer as a first and last name as much as you can Cup Cake.

It's entirely subjective where you draw the line which is dumb because you get names like Crapper B. Hole or Dumb Moth/Dumb Moff.

i generally trust admins enough to be able to make those sorts of distinctions i don't think a specific policy needs to be in place to avoid that


e cause of new reply: stupid doesn't mean bad. there's lots of dumb names that more or less pass. i think it gives the game more character, personally, at the very least over a sea of generic randomly generated names. it's a game that takes place in a corporate-governed far off star system hundreds of years in the future, one would expect names might be a little different than they are in 201x.

Do I feel like I've improved the server by asking several people to change their name to something less OOCly? Yes.

This is not a vacuum, this is not about just Cup Cake, it's about all these names that really need to go. There needs to be at least an attempt to have some resemblance of a proper name.

I agree that Adolf Hitler, Donald Trump, Nigger KIller, vulgar stuff like that is annoying to see but it's annoying because it's very clearly meant to be provocative and offensive.

Something like Cup Cake is nothing. It changes nothing. It isn't malicious in its inception. It's just a silly name in a silly game.

Yeah, when I first saw Cup Cake, I honestly asked myself,

"Am I really going to bwoink someone for the name Cup Cake?"

After that, I just ignored it, to be honest.

To top it all off, we set the precedent for stupid OOC names when lizards and moths got greenlit to all have stupid tongue-in-cheek and often meta reference names.

No one's ever gonna convince me Cup Cake is crossing lines when Robs-the-armoury or Drops-the-bomb or whatever is explicitly allowed.

it took like 14 posts to equate the name "Cup Cake" to "Nigger Killer"

we've wrapped up the ban appeal thread and this one really sucks, so.

And so to be clear, names like Cup Cake and all that are allowed for the moment because the ban was lifted. Hey, maybe we'll come back to this and change that sometime but for now it's staying
