All nicknames are retarded.

What people actually call their mates on here is fucking retarded and it should stay that way. Shoving it in the middle of your name points out how mentally deficient people are and I don't like that.

Then there are the people who add "nicknames" despite literally no one calling them that.

Appearance ban people who abuse it. Stop being fucking lazy. The name policy has empowered you already to deal with it.

If anyone appeals their appearance ban over stupid names, point them to the name policy rule and close the thread, they can get fucked. The literal same rule that involves nicknames says, in the very first line, that they must be believable and not excessively OOC.

It's rich that you yourself are posting this thread when you personally have also involved yourself in an excessively OOC name a few rounds by using nicknames making fun of the ten-code shit. If you want to actually want to see any change on this, Pugie, you should not be a source of the fucking problem AS AN ADMIN. You are actively encouraging it and only making it worse when someone goes to enforce this properly, since you make your fellow admins look like hypocrites and you by association.

My position on nicknames hasn't changed in a long while. If people call you by a nickname organically, then great. But it doesn't make sense to have Betty "Busty" Bakashimi printed out on your company-issued ID card.

And let's face it, the vast majority of ID card nicknames are so dumb or snowflakey that nobody ever uses them in conversation.

if you're gonna name yourself something like "Benis 'Futanari' Bobungus" you deserve to get banned and that's always been how it is
banning people for having something like "jihad" in their name sounds silly though

Limit them to 1 or 2 words, no allcaps, no memes, no ooc stuff, and janny up the rest

Simple

Also I saw someone with "slut" as their nickname and it made me strongly reconsider ever playing on Terry again

Keep in mind, we're not talking about preferred names here. A dude with Jiaxianghuai on his official paperwork might have "Ben" printed on his work nametag because that's his "English name", and what he goes by on a daily basis. Of course, if you actually have nicknames like "Roach" or "Bones" on your university ID, I've got nothing to say about that other than it's pretty wacky.

The naming policy is one of the most notoriously vague and inconsistently enforced rules we have why did it need an extra layer

Is this /actually/ an extra layer? The admin sees a name they don't like, you're asked to change it and don't like falls under a reference name that is too well known or something that isn't a name. It's easy to pick out nicknames that are not reasonable since nicknames are a lot more lax.

We'd prefer that the policy remains as is. Administrators are encouraged to clamp down on dumb nicknames like, 'Horny' and 'The Bulldozer of Fallujah'.

Naloac: Yes.
