When crew go off to sleep and jump into the public cryo pods they drop off of their gear on the floor to be picked up by anyone who cares.
Should the gear be under protections or is it free low effort loot for any tider needing a pda to get into another department?

Whenever I cryo/hug the SM/suicide in medical, I make a point to leave all my stuff in my department workspace/with my department head, but I know not everyone else does. On other servers I've seen cryo round removal pods, they had the explicit purpose of Removing Stuff from the Round.

The only reason that doesn't happen here, presently, is an old thing of people going into cryo with antag objectives, right?

Looting the cryo room should be treated the same as if you looted a disconnected/catatonic player. Which is to say, it should be fair game.

I don't think the gear in the room itself should necessarily be under protections. I think it's on the person cryoing to leave anything you wouldn't reasonably give to a random person outside your department somewhere that it's unlikely to be stolen, especially when it comes to things such as weapons or other 'restricted' items, and I think that includes your ID. You can't really blame people or enforce not taking the things left there, but I think it is reasonable to expect the person cryoing to not leave anything particularly problematic.

It seems dumb as fuck it just all gets dumped on the floor. But for balance purposes I'm glad it's not deleted. As it works now I think it's perfectly valid. But if you shouldn't have something finding it there doesn't justify it. Ideally there'd be a better system where items don't end up in a locked box that no heads of staff ever clear but don't end up on the floor or deleted either.

Not really a solution to that outside of map departmental sleepers maybe.

Loot is fair game, if it’s not cool to exit the game in the middle of the halls because of the items you have on you that should apply here as well.

Just waiting for that to be in and then someone speedruns putting all the insuls in the station into cryo.

or a bluespace collection bin located in the departments, but until a code solution I wonder if i should start bwoinking people not to cryo pod with items such as disablers and high access ID's?

Yeah, ultimately it's going to come down to an executive decision about whether it's fair game, and I can see the merits of several different proposed answers...

Given current constraints on space in maps I'm not sure we can actually fit these in (well, in a way that looks decent, anyway).

It's a good example of why cryo pods dropping everything on the ground made them a pointless waste of space and I'll never use them for this reason but if you don't allow looting then you run into the metagaming problem of automatically assuming anyone who's looting is either an antag or breaking the rules

This is a good solution. You want to recirculate equipment to members of that department. Maybe not IDs and PDAs though (which I guess would go to the HoP's office).

Bingo. As things currently are its on them to stash their stuff someplace safer. Just like if they logged out in a hallway.

Looting stuff from cryo is no different to looting a catatonic person- it's not stealing because they have no possible way of returning to the round as the same character.
