What it says on the tin.
Most of us agree that notes are punishment. This is one of the unspoken rules where everybody agrees it is a punishment, but admins are forced to act like it isn't.

Agreed, notes have the option of adding different symbols to qualify how "bad" they are but in practice any relevant notes are a pretext to punish someone harder in the future.

Don't break the rules then.

Admins aren't forced to act like they aren't. No one is forcing them to act in a certain way about whether notes are a punishment or not. That is a very dangerous claim to make without proof.

That is just not true. This thread is like, 3 years late...

OP should change this to something like “can unrelated notes be used against you” or somethin i dunno but even that is pretty general.

But yeah it does seem weird how some admins will die on the hill of saying notes ain’t a big deal and are just used to record conversations when players regularly get bans based on “note history” which might not even have recurring themes but just a general sort of bad history. It’s probably a bad thought to have since if you hold this view you’d likely be a bit looser with giving out notes since you don’t find them to be punishments.

Sometimes I’ll read someone’s note and be extremely confused, like there’s absolutely no wrongdoing in the note at all and it’ll just be recording facts, unappealable essentially, but if enough of those occur can it be taken into consideration for a ban about something unrelated?

After re-reading viewtopic.php?p=347563#p347563, I have decided to close this up. I really don't have an idea for what we should change. If somebody has other ideas, please open a different thread, but I don't got anything.
