Phonetically saying words.

There seems to be some confusion in what is/isn't allowed so I'm bringing this question up to the new elects-

Our term was fine with saying things like El oh El instead of LOL. Is yours?

That's how I've always seen it be enforced and I think it's fine

Goal of this is just to get it written down in paper really.

From our term's headminbus discussion on this EPIC LEAK TIME SEE I CAN DO IT TOO KIETH YOU'RE NOT THAT SPECIAL :<

Also Manuel's playerbase has people with way more NRP quirks than flexing phonetics.
I'd argue flexing phonetics is totally within the spirit of all our RP servers.
Luh-mayo.
Or, as I do to trigger all my cousin's kids
"Ess em aitching my head."
Although I haven't gotten to the level of sarcastic i kay arr.
I still say "I know, right?" with sarcastic undertones.

'aight bet....if you say so but if I get banned I will come and beat you up

Timberpoes — 21/08/2023 18:36
If you get banned for that you'll see me getting another conduct warning on he forums for railing against shitty bans in peanut posts.
That really summarises my stance on it. It is the ultimate compromise between disallowing netspeak, but accepting that SS13 has a lot of terminally online Peter Pan clones that unironically use netspeak "I arr ell". Myself very much included in that, of course. Even my old folks know what "bee arr bee" means when I need to take a cheeky slash in the lavs.

Phonetics are a higher effort form of netspeak, where the additional effort to root them outside of the realms of an online chat room and try to translate them directly into an IC equivalent, makes it fine.

I've never liked this, but if people see value in allowing it, I don't feel strongly enough to disagree.

People do this? Why not just use the laugh emote instead of saying LOL?

Imagine saying luh-mayo instead of luh-maoh

I have a friend who says bee tee double-u all the time. I think it's fine.

Yeah, it's been enforced this way and we think it's fine to make yourself look like a dork to phonetically say something that'd normally be too OOC.

Cheshify: Agreed
