It's not vastly inferior. It just has a couple of map issues that need bringing up to speed, since it was a fairly unused map and Metacide was away for a long period it kinda lagged behind. They are now active again, we're getting good feedback and things can be changed.

Also as a lot of people have made it clear, this isnt a "box vs meta" situation, its a "why not both!?".

Switching the map every few rounds also sounds like it will cause some pretty bad lag every time the minimap has to generate.

Right now it only generates on a new compile, but we're going to have to do just that every time we change maps.

Exactly this. Metacide is on a roll with map updates. If a map gets more use, people are more motivated to update it. "Meta has some problems therefore we should never ever use it!" is a retarded argument.

Change it so the minimap is saved based on map name so there can be several saved at once. They're not -that- big.

The minimap used by the crew monitoring console, it shows the map and blips for people who have their suit sensors on maximum.

You can say the same about those wanting pure metastation. The poll shows a 50% majority want both stations on a voting option.

Probably because a little bit of variety keeps the game interesting?

You go through the same motions on every map but the variety changes the playstyle pretty drastically per map and creates different scenarios and possibilities.

If you play one map in competitive CSGO I guarantee you'll be seeing the exact same plays made over and over and over.

The same pre-set smokes, the same picks, the same fakes, the same after plants.

It's the same with Box. You see the same shit pretty regularly.

As it's been pointed out, this is not a box vs meta situation.

The people who don't want to play meta are the most vocal, and complain loudly and threaten to stop playing or coding or supporting the community.

I haven't seen anyone do that who doesn't want to play box.

Box has been run on Basil before and it remained lowpop. People play on Sybil because of the population, not the map. The poll shows that the overwhelming majority of the community wants to play on meta at least sometimes.

The only proof I've found from any of this is you could probably offer ANYTHING to play on bagil and people would still shun it because of its playerbase/server population. I don't really think this has anything at all to do about the maps at this point, it's just a matter of getting people to not hate bagil.

running meta for, say, 3 rounds and then running box for three rounds seems like a good solution too.
have the other server always run the other map, and have it give a big message when the maps change, obviously.

From what I understand, the plan is to eventually have Bagil run a map geared towards low population, and have Sybil run a proper rotation.

Its on the todo list for MSO i suggest the maps like eff3 gets updated and maintained again if people want them. Might be a while though.

Here is how such a system is going to work, I've got it designed out.

There will be a preference option, called prefered map

Every round, at the end, it will roll for a new map, based on the percents of people online who have that map as their prefered map. the current map will get some percent of extra votes to avoid it switching too much.

Maps will also have min and max pop rules, and even a weighting multiple like giving box 1.5 the votes it got or giving meta only half of the votes it got. (all in config files).

There will be a line in both the status and lobby tabs with the current map so it can be easily seen.

All we need is for me to have the motivation to code it. I've been busy at work, so my down time has been spent watching DS9 or out on the town, catching up with friends.

None of that applies, did you read what i said?

Its a random rotation weighted for what people selected. 90% of people can want box station, but metastation may still get selected 10% of the time.

Nah MSO they mean like

I want box the most then meta then mini
Other guy wants meta the most then box then mini
so that's 1+0.5 for box, 0.5+1 for meta, 0.25+0.25 for mini
So there's a 3/7 chance to roll box, 3/7 chance to roll meta, 1/7 chance to roll mini.

At least I think that's what Jalleo's suggesting.

Some map rotation would be good, personally would be in favor of a ingame poll however randomising it also sounds good. We could even have the maps depend on population size, so a low population would give Ministation or another small station etc.

As for Metastation, I really used to like it and its still nice however I feel they cut too much maintanance away. Though that is just personal preference, if I were to make a map most of it would be maintanance.

I could see the perference setting like MSO wanted being good if every time it selected a new map it would be locked to it for about 3 rounds. It would be WAY too hard for new players to learn the game if the map was constantly shifting.
