Mining Mothership - Spaceship base, no static mining maps

Post by FantasticFwoosh » #283811

This idea centers around mining (and to a extent exploration) being moved off station and into a spaceship situated on another z level, which is the entire mining base with all the faculties of air & unlimited electrical energy that is capable of landing itself on any mining planet map within reach, it is a ideal place to hide with its limited faculties. By default the mining base would be directed out of orbit to land on the lavaland map, but with mapping effort is free to travel to virtually any other major mining location or biome when it is currently in orbit.

- In such a emergency that there is a boss monster outside the mining base, you can recall the mining mothership back into orbit and simply go to another mining map. Dropping a teleportation beacon is recommended and you can strand miners/escape any further threats by stranding them away from the ship. Some antagonists could establish secret bases with teleportation etc, post stranding if they so wished as to keep their location a secret.

The status of the main base is directly linked to command unlike the auxillary base, since the main mining base is pre-built with the faculties of the mining base on lavaland, having power, atmos, a small medical bay, a living quarters & a smelter in addition to a preparation room (which doesn't have mining space-hardsuits). Command can recall the mining mothership to orbit by swiping cards in such a event that the mining base was being abused or by demand of miners wanting or requesting to go into orbit so that its not constantly jumping from one place to another and it is controlled.

There are a few reasons why it is explicitly like this, firstly is that it can service as as a paralell place for space explorers when not currently shored upon upon a mining planet as a safe haven to return to, giving somewhere to store their finds & loot before shuttling back to the station via a pod bay (the pod bay shuttle carries wherever the mothership goes), the auxillary shuttle pod can also alternate between the station & the mining base by using the secondary pod bay.

> If you are floating through space you can encounter the mining mothership you can safely recouperate and resupply, and this gives the illusion of a more populated universe around the station, it is also not dependent on the current maps architecture & conditions, infact you can subtract mining from cargo entirely, saving space and mining will be unaffected as long as it has shuttle/bluespace teleporter access.

Finally a lasting reason why to additionally support this idea, is that if for whatever reason you "beat" lavaland or whatever alternative biome of mining map you are playing you can seamlessly transition to space exploration using your mining suit & backpack or just swap to a different map for different challenges adding to the replayability & length of the job role to suit everyone and experience more things across rounds adding more depth through choice.

The white ship functions as another shuttle with the capabilities to travel, but the critical difference is that the white ship can dock up to the station while the mining ship is generally too large, as the emergency shuttle takes priority in escape departures bay of the station.
