"Okay now lets nerf it to oblivion in a circlejerk almost revert that just makes it produce purple light at max potency"

Just make it interesting - if you crush it in hand it sucks the light out of the surrounding area briefly, to let you escape/sneak into somewhere/gib some nerd/whatever.
Stepping on them if they're growing on the floor does the same thing but a much smaller area, and only while you're on it.

I don't see why they couldn't have some unique chemicals attributed to it, because functionally there isn't any difference between them or explicit reason to grow them besides from aesthetics. Infact you can remove the darkness gene entirely and have them be prettier glowshrooms with plant disk shenanigans.

- Sort of blindness chemical that inflicts when it is sprayed on contact or injested 90% and 10% production of a chemical that gives you night vision as long as it's only ever applied onto the eyes with a dropper because injestion/other bodily contact is toxic.

walk around with a beaker & a dropper of night vision solution heh, creeping through the umbral mushroom patches & inky black darkness.

I still think it's less anoying to fight, but maybe it shouldnt block line of sight without a specific mutation.

How about spraying shroom patches with weedkiller will just cause the patch to lose health and die?

Fungicide essentially. It'd need to have a special 'toxin resistant' gene in order to be less effective, maybe thats something that shadowshroom could have as a unique mutation.

Id also like to see a type of mushroom that spits out spores of its reagent into surrounding people's bloodstreams if they are unlucky/lucky enough to inhale it.
