REPAIR ROOMBA: FLOORBOT MK2

Post by christ110 » #338130

so, to make repairs be not instantanious like chrono-grenades or construction bombs from robustin's proposed GBP system, but less tedious for most people, i suggest the addition of a new robot.
it can be made from robotics, and is either made by upgrading a floorbot, or in a more advanced fasion like the ed-209 is vs the secbot.
unlike engineers, engi-borgis, and drones, the repair roomba slowly (it takes the same amount of time to repair an item as a cleanbot does to clean a single stain) repairs areas to round-start condition, it has a standard battery that will run out of charge very quickly to power its synthesizer.

it will fix holes in the floor, replace wires, apcs, air alarms, fire alarms, newscasters, pipes, vents, scrubbers, manifolds, etc, with the exception of loose items that are found round-start. (ex, the pillbottle of mannitol in genetics) or storage devices with items will be rebuilt, sans items (ex, virology smartfridge will get rebuilt, but will have no bottles of goodies inside) and maybe whatever else needs to be limited to prevent spam.

when it does rebuild stuff, it typically uses the lowest-grade replacement. (ex, using normal walls instead of r-walls, using the smallest cell that isnt a potato cell in an apc, when rebuilding complex machinery, like a gibber it will use t1 parts) unless loaded with advanced materials into its synthesizer. (ex, load plasma for t2 parts, silver and gold for t3 parts, uranium and diamond for t4 parts. silver gives half as much... "complex matter units" as gold, uranium vs diamond is the same.)

there is typically one robot given to engineering round-start, and an access card for the ce, who he can toss to one of his subordinates which gives him robotics access, to manage the robot.
management mainly consists of designating areas to work in (not limited to rooms, just define a rectangle it can work in by placing 2 beacons.), synchronizing radio frequencies of robits so multiple can work together in the same area, giving them materials, and begging rnd/robotics to make more. in the future, some advanced coder could prolly allow the robot manager to run simple instructions (almost like its a turtle) that work faster/only do what is needed for repairs.

by doing this, we make repairs less tedious, but not in a method that completely removes the idea of doing repairs. this allows engineers and atmos techies to work on other fun autism projects, rather than waiting in a bar on standby for a bomb so they can do work the shuttle. yes, this is a replacement for the floorbot, thats by design, i fucking hate that useless piece of shit.

Note to say, upgradeable floorbot with ability to repair big holes in station is already a thing
