Rev, or, How I learned to stop worrying and love the flash

Post by Anonmare » #351012

So for those of you who don't read the Policy Discussion board (and to be fair that's a smart move), I brought up an old idea of mine I put in the shitty ideas thread a long time ago that I've decided to perform necromancy upon.

The premise is simple: Changing how revolutionaries see one another.

Revheads will not be changed, they will continue as they always have but their converts will have their HUDs drastically altered.
  • Converted revolutionaries will be changed in the following ways:
  • You will always know who the revolutionary heads are. As your martyrs and leaders, every rev instinctively knows who they're dying for.
  • You will only be able to identify other converted revolutionaries if you were converted by the same revhead.
  • Revolutionaries converted by another revhead will appear as regular crewmembers to you, but you are on the same side.
The idea is to discourage revolutionaries from attacking everything without a little "R" next to their head (as they could be attacking other revolutionaries) whilst also encouraging the revheads to, you know, actually lead their converts instead of hide away somewhere and let everyone else do the work. This will also allow neutral crewmembers to hide amongst revolutionary ranks to avoid getting curb stomped, but, be warned that revheads can spot a non-believer a mile away.

Security will also be discouraged from becoming the Gestapo as, with any hope, the revolutionaries won't break out into violence at the drop of a hat meanign security won't have the excuse to go around methodically exterminating unimplanted departments, whilst not affecting the revolutionaries primary advantage: Quantity of numbers.

I am aware that this means friendly fire incidents go up dramatically but in my consideration, this is a feature. After all, the revheads are the keystones of the operation and if they're not around to organise the revolution - then it ought to fall apart into infighting.

I have no doubt there will be issues but I hope that the playerbase will adjust after a teething period. The idea is to make this mode less team deathmatch in behaviour and encourage cooperation whilst discouraging rampant murder on the same grounds as a cultist using his tome to get a cult sword/robes roundstart and going around chopping off heads

This can easily be exploited by just having 1 revhead convert everyone, and the other revhead(s) just hiding and staying safe.

A valid tactic. Remember, de-converted revs remember who the person who converted them and if those revheads aren't converting or leading, the revolution will lose steam and cohesion and eventually the revheads will be found (unless they're hiding in 1x1 walls AFKing in which case they're free game for shenanigans like all revheads/heads of staff who pussy out)

I actually think this idea has merit.

It will put more pressure on the admins, which is not saying much since Rev is already a hands-off game mode. However I do think that if the average Rev is forced to not instantly escalate to murder due to them not knowing for certain if someone is a fellow Rev or not (and people can lie), then that also has the knock on effect where Security can be somewhat more relaxed in their counter-terrorism operations and don't equally have to escalate to random murder.

It is almost like Rev mode has had the glaring and long term problem of turtling ending in hour long stalemates.

Figuring out a way via game design to discourage that behavior would improve the mode considerably.

Do you really think people will give a shit? I bet the mass murder on normies bu revs will go unhindered and will be protected under the guise of "i dint know ;)". This will just cause unneeded strife and complexness to a mode that really doesn't need it

let's be real, as with all proposed ideas that aren't outright obviously retarded the only way to see if it would do anything helpful is to test it with real players instead of debating with the forum warriors

When you're deconverted as a rev, you lose all memories of your time as a rev, other than the identity of the person who converted you, IIRC.

You remember the person who converted you yes. In context, if only person is converting and other heads are hidiing and not leading, then their conversion power is greatly diminished and sooner or later they'll be found out when they're one of the only people without mindshields
