Using an item with grab intent on a person gives it to them

Because dropping stuff on the floor to give items to people is something only a sperg would do and the proper way of giving stuff via the strip menu is clunky and awkward.

Or, alternatively, remove the delay on the strip menu for putting something into someone's hands completely.

NT had the whole right click give option. It was kinda slow so this could be just a quick way of doing it.

Have it be help intent and it's a deal.

especially since using an item with the "help" intent does not help people at all

Didn't the delay get added to stop people crashing the server with autoclickers way back when?

But yeah, I can see the appeal

I have to be on disarm or grab intent all the time to stun people with the stun baton without beating them? No thanks please.

Here's my idea for giving to items:

Use a drag and drop instead of fucking with the already clunky intent system. Drag yourself onto someone else with an item you want to give in your active hand, then it will display '[a] is trying to give [item] to ...' and only works if they have a free hand. So basically, it would be a quicker way to 'put something' into someone's hand, as if you're doing it from the strip menu, and it would be delayed exactly the same so people couldn't abuse it. On NT I used baystation's popup give menu system but I've come to vehemently hate popup windows so that's not the best idea. Intents already switch a few weapons from beating to death to shooting, especially with the point blank shooting system, so fucking around with that anymore is just asking for trouble.

But the delay is the reason it's so annoying to give someone something. Handing a person an object should be a very quick if not instantaneous interaction.

As we all know, having two people stand perfectly still next to each other for a timed interaction to occur is far more difficult than it sounds. Especially in a crowded area, it's basically impossible.

As for abuse, well, I think shoving a bomb into someone's hands and running away quickly shouldn't be counted as abuse because that kind of thing actually happens in real life.

No. That would literally ruin most traitor/DA rounds.

I support Paprika's suggestion. No one wants to suddenly blow up because someone threw some C4 in their hands instantly.

Allowing you to drag a item directly onto someone is a far more effective method of giving them something than it is to open their inventory and click where you want to place the item in their hands.

As soon as you said "intents are annoying to work with" I realized "hey yeah they ARE annoying".

Instead of drag-self-drop-on-them, it could be drag-item-drop-on-them.

Make it only work if their active hand is free

That's the idea. Some brave coder will implement this, there's a rough framework for it here https://github.com/NTStation/NTstation13/pull/745/files

Also the giving should fail if the person receiving isn't also on help intent.
