Medical Holo-Barrier

So I’ve played a fair amount of CMO, and behind a department full of liggers, seeing infected people waltz off after telling them to stay for treatment is one of the most frustrating things.

So introducing the Medical Holo-Barrier

Said device would be a CMO Locker spawn, and possibly a medborg module.

Anyways, the barrier constructed would have two settings, toggleable via clicking on it when its in your hand.

Setting One
- Can be passed through by anyone, similar to implanted personnel and a sec barrier.
- If someone bearing a virus passes through, the barrier emitts a low noise (nothing obnoxious like morgue beepers) and pulses the color matching the infected persons virus.
- (Possible Effect) If a high danger level virus is detected, the holo-barrier device emitts a noise.

Setting Two
- Blocks everyone from passing through

I wondered if just one made where only healthy people could pass through would be smart, but decided the other way is better.

Also, as a possible nerf, maybe each barrier would have a lifespan, so that Medical doesn’t make their jobs even easier.

Note: Would not detect things such as event infections (xeno/zombie), appendicitis, or Sentient Diseases

As a fun idea, an emagged device’s barriers would not detect viruses.(just to remove exploitation)

Edit: Device would be a medium toned blue reskin of normal barriers

Nobody cares about holo barriers, they will just break them down.

Your penlight at range can signal someone to flipping stop

Good luck actually clicking on someone with it as they run full speed while bleeding to death on fire.

Build a window in medbay entrance and see what happens.

get out with the shitty strawman

sounds like a neat idea, i might be interested in coding it if no one else is, as this should be quite easy to code.
i'd recommend making a third mode where it blocks and flashes red if someone with a dangerous virus tries to pass but honestly people will just smash them if they blocked so  honestly better just leaving them as visually identifying virus detector gates.
might be good if we ever get actually dangerous viruses/gamemodes based on it.

Thanks.

Also, I didn't really intend it as a method of forcibly keeping patients in (lord knows there's a 1000 ways to do that). I just proposed it because I thought it would be a cool addition to the relatively lackluster medbay, and ya know, a ghetto virus detector.

Also yeah I don't quite the see the point of identifying and blocking people from passing, as they'll just smash through. I just think people will naturally heed the warning of the barrier (setting two) bc who has time for a virus? Sure no one listens to sec barriers, but I know that engi barriers tend to be left alone if a reason is visible.

Make barrier freely passable, but also make it paint sick people passing through it red or green for a while. Easily spottable and identifiable by the diseased, medical staff and by bystanders (so they can stay the fuck away).

Sorry if the implication was we don't need this in lieu of penlights, was just giving a bandaid until this gets fleshed out in code.

Also it doesn't matter, they go horizontal eventually and you can click on them freely then :^)

Chasing down people who refuse treatment is like 80% of the medbay experience though

Good point.

Counter suggestion to my idea, give CMO a pulse rifle to stop those pesky assistants from spreading disease.

Merged but not coded into maps yet.

I tested it minimally with monkeys, and it didn’t react to yellow or green level viruses.

Does it only work on humans/grey level viruses?

That's an oversight but probably can be talked out of (See: Monkeys going through the border is a totally hilarious and should-be valid tactic).

It's not added to maps because it's techweb-bound (Adv medical)

Make a science holo that beeps if someone walks through carrying an item that can be used to generate points for RnD

make a proximity alarm except it only triggers on research samples
this way you can make a science mantrap with airlocks
