it's never been realistic

oranges suggested a while back a more effective way of repairing hull breaches, which is something I've always wanted.

It's too easy to trigger a shuttle call with a bomb.

The problem is not so much replacing the hull and atmosphere, but returning the area to a functional department. Piping, wiring, rooms, machines, vendors, computers and furniture are all still missing. It's not easy to remember how they were laid out and the damaged piping and wiring affect other parts of the station.

The auxiliary mining base has a construction droid. It could be added to to create a repair droid for engineers to rebuild destroyed departments.

Rounds would last longer, departments would complete their work more often and there'd be less lag due to fewer unresolved atmos differences between tiles. Engineers wouldn't be off rebuilding departments due to the tedium involved.

Bombs could be buffed if this weakened them too much.

Honestly if there was some way to set a tile back to what it was at roundstart, i'd absolutely repair departments. Even just a manually piloted drone that "remembers" if there was wire/piping on the tile and replaces it, that'd work wonders for fixing the massive power issues and disposals issues that a single bomb brings.

two hands and a slot for a duffelbag of tools

they don't have to worry about oxygen, pressure, temperature or hunger and are faster than humans but the process for rebuilding is just as tedious and the lack of knowledge of the layout of the piping/electrical grid still remains an issue

I tried coding something that can retrieve the data of what was on a tile at roundstart which would make this realistic
however if you just store the data on the tile as a list it'll be a huge drain on memory
and i haven't ever figured out how to make the maploader EFFICIENTLY only read one tile from a .dmm without having to store the entire dictionary of the .dmm in memory which would still use memory but not nearly as much as the first option.

would be nice if drones had something like an integrated blueprint overlay
