ok so what i hate about ss13 is that most races besides plasmapeople and IPC are human + animal and then usually have some meme-tier additions to make them special.


i want to prove the people that talked shit to me that if i had better ideas i should make them so im doing exactly that

ethereal: creatures made from some kind of magic organic shiny material that i'll fluff out later. their main differences to humans are as follows
1. They give off light (DONE)
2. they are colored and shine light depending on how damaged they are, green + bright = healthy grey + dark = dead (DONE)
3. their punches burn (DONE)
4. weak to brute (DONE)
5. no hunger, rely on getting electricity somehow. (charging station, potential for unique recipes for chef to give electricity, some tools that might negatively affect this species, etc. lots of interesting potential) (IN PROGRESS)

this race wont have huge mechanical changes so right now this is the basis, I will consider small changes but if you want a race that changes the meta way too much then its a no go. (and no im not going to literaly copy zoltan mechanics, itd be too painful to code most likely)

I really enjoy giving things negative light values? Any possiblity for that while in crit?

Lorewise it's a self defense mechanism to hide themselves when hurt.

When you say their punches burn do they do extra burn or do they do burn instead of brute but do the same amount as a human punch?

Would be nice if they could recharge power cells inhands at the cost of their own nutrition but that'd be a PITA to code and balance

Yeah, it works best if they aren't moving too quickly. For bonus fun you can do negative power with a color filter. Honestly it's pretty fun to play around with using VV's.

because the race looks cool and is different and plasmapeople are cool as is.

the problem isnt that theyre humanoid (if anything, thats better because it means less spritework and less code refactoring) its just that they need something that isnt humanoid animal

because the race looks cool and is different and plasmapeople are cool as is.

it'd be doable to code I think, and balance is a concern yeah so it's maybe somethign someone can add once the initial PR is in.

It would be funny to have a race chew on wires and grab electric grilles when hungry. Lore can be that Ethereals are from a venus like planet with a highly energized atmosphere.

Suggestions, make them not need to breath but they need to be in areas with power to live. Nutrition is actually important to ethereals as it drains when they are in an area with no power like space or lavaland and if low enough causes brute damage as they destabilize and begin to break their body down to produce energy.

Kinda sounds like Novakids from Starbound, looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I like the races that are based on different atmospheres/environments, makes for much more interesting distinction.

Hurghhh the coolest part of Zoltans is them exploding thoughhhhh

Honestly though, maybe they should have like 99% shock resist so they take no damage but still take the stun? you still wouldn't be able to actually do shit that risks shocking you so it wouldn't be nearly as good as gloves.

eating the nuke core, getting hit by a lightning bolt from the tesla, or a wizard, causes them to get fucking SWOLE and supercharged for a short period of time, essentially hulk but different

they can grab intent wires/opened apcs/batteries to suck energy out of them.

the word would be something along the lines of eletricium or some variety of that as opposed to "Liquid Electricity"

when they get stunned it knocks them down but heals them

being emped has a 10% chance of making them swole and a 90% chance of doing 50 brute and 50 burn and knocking them out

when using energy weapons, they can alt click it to recharge it at cost of 50 brute and 50 burn

when using a energy sword, it makes it do slightly more damage when its charged at the cost of 10 brute and 10 burn.

their brains can be used as really really high capacity batteries (or their hearts if applicable)

they don't need rigsuits but will progressively lose power in a vacuum or extremely cold environment

standing in front of a particle accelerator causes them to arc in bolts of lightning while doing damage to them. (corpses don't continue to do this to prevent lag and corpse stacking infinite bolt areas in engineering)

bumping into electrified objects (a grille) causes them to be pushed back a tile but heals them, as opposed to stunning or knocking them down. hitting the grille however knocks them down (being thrown into it when in crit heals the ethereal but causes a bolt of lightning to be generated.)

every energy driven implant or augment is slightly better, or signifigantly better when overcharged. (energy sword arms now take less energy and do more damage, tool sets, including medical and engineering operate faster than the CE's set)

you can overcharge a empty set of anomoly armor and cause it to have a chance to shock the person hitting the wearer of the armor or a very rare chance to generate a lightning bolt. putting a ethereal's brain into it causes the armor to become sentinent with the ability to determine when shocks will be applied or a lightning bolt will be generated (on a signifigantly longer cool down than when it's random)

They should just get stunned by shocks, not damaged. it giving them energy is just kinda weird, and the bad part of a door being shocked is that you can't use the door.

no because the format isn't based on color atm. its a latin word + 1-2 capital letters until I find something thats better

Any chance of giving Ethereal's blue blood? Copper based blood would make more sense for a being that runs on electricity, and copper based blood is blue. It would also distinguish Ethereal's a bit more from other organic characters.
