Pest Wars: The Dawn of Cleanliness

Post by Lumbermancer » #469330

Here we go. Ghost roles and side antags are gone, you can either wait to get cloned, or join the conflict. It doesn't stop you from getting cloned later!

Pests vs The Clean Team. You join like you join the CTF, it is an ongoing conflict. But it will auto-balance the team in favor the Pests.

Pests are Mice and Cockroaches. You get spawned randomly as one. Pests have the Rat King and Roach Queen who are the leaders (maybe elected like cult master). Leaders can place nests, which spawn rat and roach babies, which in turn can be controlled by players. They also have AI-like eye to coordinate with other pests. There is a hive chat. Leaders use energy to use God-eye and place nests. They regain energy by eating foods or resting on the Nasty.

Primary role of the Mice is chewing on the wires. But, wires are reworked a bit. You chew the wire, and it gets damaged. The power transfer is cut by 3/4. The APC affected will blink giving the warning. When two mice chew on damaged wire, it gets severed. No power goes through.
Three mice can work together to open airlock panel, and then chew on its wires to wreck it.

Primary role of the Roaches is messing with electronics. A roach can crawl into whatever piece of appliance (be it a console or chemical dispenser) to damage it. Roach dies in the process. But damaged equipment doesn't function quite well. Tt may sometimes work, sometimes not. It may go offline, and stay offline. The input can get all messed up, so you push a button and get different result. Thankfully, it's not hard to fix it, all you need is a bit of cleaning spray to remove the nasty roach gunk from the circuitry (like you do to the messed up microwaves).

Both Mice and Roaches can place The Nasty, which is sorta like xeno weed. The Nasty heals you up, and allows Leaders to regain energy (Nasty node is just cooldown). The Nasty is the primary way of assertion your control over the station. Both Mice and Roaches can squeeze under the airlocks, it just takes a second or two.

Now The Clean Team. The gameplay is asymmetrical, so the Clean Team is less numerous (teams are balanced in favor of Pests) but tougher. The Clean Team leader is The Janitor, who is the janitor. He has access to MaintenanceBot fabricator, which can be moved around, but has to be wrenched to work. It has to be placed on the power line (go Mice go) and can be damaged by Roaches (go Roaches go). Fabricator also needs quite a lot of metal to fabricate MaintenanceBot shells (which of course can be taken over by the players), and it takes some time to build one.
MaintenanceBot is like a super Cleanbot. It can not only clean The Nasty, but has cleaner spray to clean equipment and wires and wirecutters to fix the...wires. Cleaning and using the gear drains its charge, but it can recharge by hooking up with nearest APC. Unfortunately it drains a lot of power, so you best make sure the APC is connected to the grid. MaintenanceBots have access to the service channel, so they can coordinate with The Janitor.

Asymmetrical gameplay. MaintenanceBots can take more punishment, and handle multiple Pests at once. But they don't regenerate like Pests, they need to be repaired by The Janitor. They also can't freely move through the airlocks, two MaintenanceBots need to team up to force an airlock open.

The Clean Team fights to keep the station clean, Pests want to mess it up. Pests get score based on The Nasty, damaged equipment and wires. The conflict is perpetual, it ends when the round ends.

When I started reading I was initially hype for mouse versus roach turf wars in the background of the station that you could join as a ghost when your spessman got killed but then it started going into actually trashing the station and having an impact on the round and I lost interest

It is supposed to replace all the ghost roles and mid-round antags, so it has to affect the round. I think.
