A simple balanced autodoc for surgeries.

My idea here is an automatic surgical machine that would have to learn surgeries.

The machine could learn surgeries by setting machine to copy mode and manually performing the surgery once on a target.
- If you fail a step or goof something the machine does too, a complete copy.
- Machine has an additional fail chance unrelated to you goofing while showing the machine, about 10% decreasing to 5%, 1% and 0% depending on the tier of machine parts used in its construction.
- Machine has a tray for additional parts such as a pill for dental implants or robotic limbs.

This should provide a balanced means of self surgery as well as make surgery less of a chore.

There are still some other issues to go over, but if some coder likes this then they can just continue the idea.

so we removed the button presser machine that healed people and you want to add another?

how about you suggest some concrete tangible UI or interaction improvements for the surgeries?

Still seems a lot better than the magic cloner that fixes every problem.

Yeah look, I know, but for the next six months what I really want to focus on doing is giving crew things to do other than just chasing antags and drinking in the bar.

That means rather than doing things that take away work we focus on trying to make the work that people are doing more fun.

My unironic suggestion is Bay surgery. It's much more intuitive and much faster in my honest opinion, especially if we continue using TGmed which has less depth and chances of things going wrong. The big issue, besides porting it, would be getting things like advanced surgeries to play nice.

Context sensitive surgery. Instead of defining what surgery you're going to perform with drapes, you just perform the appropriate step with the appropriate tool at the right time. I've done quadruple limb replacement on Eris in a fraction of the time it takes me on /tg/.

I like the idea of accidentality ripping someone's brain out instead of performing brain surgery.

The idea for the autodoc here is that it would require doctors to show it what surgeries to do.

Another idea is to make it require anesthetic of some sort or something so its still a longer process and not just press button to get reconstruction surgery and get healed.

Wouldn't it be easier to just make more surgery tables aviable and raising the speed of tool use during surgery? That would solve a lot of problems.
Also, if you're all worried about cloner, just make resurrection/reconstruction surgery round start and move cloner use somewhere farther up the tech tree. Resurrection requires a person to be tehre physically doing the surgery and that way multiple people can be resurrected in paralell.

I want a way to self surgery that is difficult to do but worth the time you put into it, thats my main reason for this.

I do also think that surgery tools should be sped up too though, making the basic ones the speed of the advanced and advanced just instant

I'd ask you to define "difficult", if you don't mind, because theexistence of the wiki means just adding more steps to it would not really make it difficult, just tedious, and making a complex minigame for it is intensive on coding, and probably too involved. I could see self-surgeries being more difficult if they have a higher chance to fail, but that just turns the whole thing into luck-based gameplay, which is not a good idea either. The two ways this could be made complex but attainable is to require rarer, not easily accesible tools (Maybe things that require Cargo (specialist tools), Science (Self-surgery tech) or Genetic modifications. I'd be inclined to the latter, if anything to give genetics something more to do apart from meme mutations and specially if cloners go bye as some people here are hinting at.
