HoP content

Since the ID changes, HoP is almost an RP role like lawyer and psychologist, when it't not being used to be an acting captain antag.

What else can we add to the job of HoP to make it actually useful to the station?

I think being able to manage bank accounts is a small thing that the HoP could also do. But it needs more, otherwise HoP might as well be removed.

The limitations of the Head of Personnel and the limitations of a pen and paper in the hands of an auteur

I agree, HOP is beyond useless now. He can’t take over the cargo department as QM is already boss there and only nominally willing to follow HOP orders in every round. Does service really need a head? I think no. I suppose he could improve department cooperation, but we don’t need a head to run from cargo to sci to request mining tech. Or from kitchen to botany to request carrots.
Service/Civilians are spread all over the station. They are largely independent from each other. HoP is largely not needed anymore and his only purpose is to go HoPtain when Captain is absent or join Sec and gun down criminals with your free gun in the locker.

What ID changes what happened to ID cards

Used to play HoP and I really enjoyed being able to give any sort of combinations of access to people, and agree that trims made it super dull (although I understand it was a reasonable change, because AA for everyone at 5 mins was dumb af).

But what other content can you add to it? Managing the economy sounds pointless when it's such a minor part of the game. Maybe a revamp of the role with a different set of goals?

Can't think about anything right now tho.

ID cards have limited access slots now. Each ID comes with job access and a couple "wildcard slots". HoP can fill wildcard slots with any access, but they're limited in number per ID card (silver cards get more wildcard slots than regular IDs). Basically, if you want AA you need to carry around a bunch of ID cards or get the captain's/spare.

i hate having to walk to the pda painter/having to use a separate machine to change an id's trim it's clunky

the HoP doesn't need anything to distract them from their main purpose which is to provide id changes

You can tell this guy is a Head of Personnel because he literally does not want to move from his chair at the desk for any reason and I respect that

I honestly just think that HoPs are there to help the crew with ID changes and anything more than that will make them less likely to help or less efficient in doing so

Never mind you have no regard for the absolute necessity of bureaucracy

I think the HOP should have a paperwork-verifying minigame like cargo stamps, based on what the other departments are doing. He gets a fax machine that prints paperwork and he checks (or guesses) if they're correct then ships them to centcomm for money

Nobody has thus far touched the matter as to why Civilian/Service even needs a head.
It’s not the fucking Head of Paper, it’s Head of Personnel. He’s completely removed from the department that is supposed to be his own turf on EVERY MAP. In fact, his main power is reassigning personnel from department to department and technically he’s supposed to consult with other heads before doing so.
The final decision on the fucking matter ultimately doesn’t even rest with him. In fact, this entire access crap ordeal can be completely automated with a code decision. Fucking heads already have (or had?) an ability to add access to areas of their department in a department access modifcation console.
Just nuking HoP at this point seems a better idea than anything else, really. Paperwork autists can look forward to stamping manifests and making people write detailed explanations as to why they want Collectable Hat Crate to be purchased.

I wouldn't hate heads covering their own reassignments

Was it /tg/ or another codebase that also set Emergency Access in key departments (like Medical) automatically when nobody signs up as a role in that department, by the way? I know some codebase had that.
