Preface: This is a terrible idea. Feel free to express your opinion below.

It came up that it kinda sucks if you get taken out of rounds really early, and it can cause some butthurt. Mostly because you never had much chance to do anything fun, and maybe there's no drone shells available.

So, here's a stupid coder intensive idea for making it less of a deal if a changeling surprises you a minute into the round.

The ghost layer:

A layer that's only visible/interactable if you're a ghost, and have ghost vision toggled on. Toggling it on gives you a pair of ghostly hands, and allows you to see the ethereal world.

Within the maps are placed ghostly objects you can interact with, like boxes of ghost crayons and ghost art wire, and ghostly space cleaner and ghostly wire cutters. Ghostly arcade machines. Ethreal nerf bats for beating each other over the head. Etc.

These hands and objects *CAN ONLY AFFECT* the ethereal world. The real world can however, delete ghost layer stuff based on circumstances.

Normally, non-ghosts can't see, or even tell anythings going on, even when a ghost is writing woody got wood all over the captain's office.

Might be fun to have admin or random events that make some of it visible for short periods of time, just for the spooks.

Maybe also a camera you can get through a special high end slime that takes pictures, but the people on it show up as skeletons, and it can see ghosts and the ghost layer (but will never tell you their names or what they're doing)

Essentially, goofing off art mode hangout ghost time.

Additional suggestion:
If you have your hallucination level up high enough, through tripping over an incredible amount of balls, you start to sporadically see the ghost layer slowly fade in and out and you can see ghosts. Caveat: The ghosts are named as and look like monsters, and can click on them to fake 'attack' the person if they get close. Inject someone with 100 lsd, have them see WGW all over the floor and have giant spiders flitting around him nipping at their face.

It's not a terrible idea, it's basically just a bonus thing for ghosts to do if fucking nothing is happening which is something that's kind of needed.

For added spookiness make it so that in spooky areas like the morgue, maintenance tunnels, and especially that walled in room with the surgery table ghosts will randomly be visible to players for a second or two. They'll appear as unknown with all the injuries they had and the clothes they were wearing when they died. They can't speak but they can emote. They also have the ability to make ghostly moaning noises in the more abandoned or derelict parts of the station. Fuck getting cloned, haunt the maintenance tunnels and spook the shit out of people as a unknown dude covered in blood with his face caved in and his torso burnt to a crisp. Or shadow that antag who killed you while he's skulking about in maint, pointing an accusing at him whenever you're visible or emoting shit like clawing your face off or silently screaming in rage.

Let hallucinations allow people to rarely see the ghost layer AND have hallucinated fake ghost layer items (disrupting any signal).

You could take an average ("Walk between those markings 10 times"), which would help correct for error.

I thought chair spinning was removed years ago due to people asking ghosts to turn a chair to determine if someone did a crime?

Secondary ghost mode where you can't see chat at all except for other haunting ghosts and chaplain prayers.

But yeah this is way too much fun sounding for our playerbase.

this reminds me of when i played TTT in gmod back in the day

some servers had a thing where if you died and the round still had some time to go, you could re-enter the map and keep playing, but could only interact with other ghosts who did the same and the living were completely oblivious of your presence

i dont see why we couldn't do that

It was impossible for the admins to catch this behavior even when it was happening right in front of them.

Maybe let ghosts attack people who can see the layer for entertainment. Dealing stamina damage obviously.

Why help metafuck when you can beat him up?

The best way of dealing with messages from the grave was another ghost fucking up the message, incentivizing it is more interesting than it being impossible at least.

If you make it rare enough or difficult enough to get information from beyond the grave I think it's fine. Chair spinning is a problem because it's easy, not because information about whatever is game breaking. Requiring candles and incense and runes and maybe a few rare items to perform a seance that would temporarily allow ghosts to communicate (maybe with their voices distorted like bad radio chatter) sounds cool as heck. So does the voice recorders and the hallucinations.
