Flare Gun

Single-shot breech-loaded flare gun, used for signalling.

That sprite is pretty shitty, just showing how it may look.

Flare gun shot is really bright, though it lasts for just a few seconds. Probably can be used to check dark areas from safe distance.

Though not actually being a weapon, flare gun's shot deals 30-50 brute damage to target not wearing body armor and has a chance to set them on fire/sets them on fire, maybe also knocking the target down for some time, thus being pretty robust

To prevent people from shooting it in everyone's face reloading the flare gun would need some fiddling with. To reload it you have to right click, expand it, take out the shell, then load the flare, rightclick it again to put chamber back on it's place. Or just the L6 SAW reload.

Where do you get them?
I'd say one Flare Gun should spawn at Gateway, maybe CE or maybe miners should get some. One or maybe two of these can be found in emergency crate ordered by cargo.
Ammo is made either with autolathe or tablecrafting(some metal and flare, maybe wires).

What happens when you shoot someone with it

1) Blind + confuse + ignite the target, do a flat burn damage on hit but otherwise just ignite
2) If shot at a person, set them on fire along with minor brute damage.
3) Knockdown + set on fire
4) Knockdown + brute/burn damage + set on fire
5) Knockdown + brute/burn damage

A flare projectile doing more brute damage than most bullets seems dumb. Maybe have it do a little less damage but in burn, to simulate the horribly unsafe combustible chemical mix used?

It's up for you guys i think. It's actually kinda penetrating people sometimes, both burning through and passing through, although burn damage may be more logical.

Just have it do blind + confuse + ignite the target, do a flat burn damage on hit but otherwise just ignite, brute doesn't make that much sense in high amounts.

Please no, object verbs are bad and wrong. How about...
* Left-click the flaregun to open it.
* Click the flaregun with a free hand to take out the empty shell (same as removing a suppressor from a gun).
* Load a shell in.
* Left-click the open flaregun to close it.

Damage and debuffs it deals is only my suggestion. I hope that if it ever gets coded and put in game all the drawbacks will show up. TechnoAlchemist's point of view to the debuffs flare gun should is pretty fair and don't seem to be OP in any way. Ordering flare guns crate separately with a lock or increasing price on energency crate might be fair enough for it too.
Locked crates are pretty much weak when they meet IED anyways, the only reason cargo isn't going guncargo now is that this gets em banned or they're just bored of guns.
Also, flare gun would come handy when you meet shadowlings, so a weapon other than torch

maybe have it be a rare item on away missions where you'd espect to see it. Not in a space station. In space. Where a signal gun would be useless?

You actually don't use it for signalling, this is only used for combat. Though you have just one shot.
Flare gun is pretty iconic, appearing in movies and games and usually being robust shit rarely used for signalling, but rather used for kicking ass. We already got some makeshift weapons (spears) that look pretty weird in 2555(or whatever the year is now), so why don't we have a weapon with more or less unique mechanics, that's also bringing some atmosphere in game?

I think Flare Gun should
A. If shot at a person, set them on fire along with minor brute damage.
B. If shot at the floor/wall/etc. display the flare on the ground (lit with light emitting from it)

It wouldn't be a problem in regards to people spamming it if it wasen't such a robust fucking weapon.

Just have it set people on fire if you shoot someone with it, don't make it autistic to reload either.

IE:
Press z to open breach, extractor pops out the spent casing onto the floor, or into your empty hand if you didn't shoot it but just want to unload it for some reason
Load another flare shell in
Press z after that to close the breach
Press z one final time to pull the hammer back, then your ready to fire


You have to reload after every shot, its essentially going to become "wew lads carry 4 flare guns for maximum firepower"

Locations:

Found in engineering lockers (the ones that have the hazard vests and mesons in them)
3 spawn in the YouTool
2-3 spawn in maint
[size=25]CE gets a double barrel one for maximum memes (essentially a double barrel shotgun but with a open/closed state)[/size]
Cargo can order a crate containing 2 flare guns and a box of flare shells
The Detective can resprite his revolver to look like one for even more memes (still a 38, just looks like a flare gun)

*NOTE: You shouldn't be able to fire normal flares out of the flare gun, only flare shells, to prevent this from becoming pirates of the flares

Why it isn't coded yet, this kind man already made sprite for it. Setting on fire+maybe like 5-10 brute damage and a holy light comin from the projectile
