Remove Gender option

genders are not represented properly here, I say we leave a "fill in your own" gender option, and the ability to add boobs or a dick to any character

when examining it will refer to them as "it is wearing x"

my other is remove gender entirely, and just be able to have tits or a dick if you want, everyone will be of various genders other than cis types

I wouldn't mind something similar to what Terbs is suggesting.

It's more controversial than it is worth to even attempt, and I certainly doubt it will work in this community.
If you can't handle playing a male or female in a video game, why are you playing a game as offensive as SS13 on a server as offensive as /tg/?

Wow, Terbs. I thought you were progressive. I guess I was wrong, if you're someone who just assumes pronouns like that... The only option for true equality is to be able to select your own pronouns on your character profile and have the game use them to refer to you properly.

It'd be a huge change since we currently use byond's helpful gender macros, \he and \his. The reference says only the following are valid:
"neuter"
"male"
"female"
"plural"

We could theoretically replace all instances of \he and \his with [src.pronoun] and [src.pronounPossessive], and add those qualities to /mob/, but that wouldn't compile because the macro is really helpful. It grabs the gender of the last entity mentioned, like so:

user.visible_message(pick("<span class='suicide'>[user] is pressing [src] to \his temple and activating it! It looks like \he's trying to commit suicide.</span>", \

(Sorry for the triggering example. honk)

So in that case we'd have to use [user.pronoun] and [user.pronounPossesive], which means the replacement would be a nightmare and look ugly in the code.

No, I think it's fine as-is. It's only natural for spacemen who don't know any better to assume any spaceman with boobs is female, and the inverse. It's easy to make an androgynous character through hairstyle, clothing, and behavior. I just checked to be sure and, as far as I can tell, none of the hairstyles are gender-specific. Only guys can get facial hair though... meh, I doubt that's a problem.

wow i didn't mean it like that dick, i was making it easy on coders, i would rather us be able to choose our real genders that we are than be put in "him" or "her" piles

so fuck off, im not dehumanizing my non cis gendered companions by suggesting they be referred to as "it"

being FORCED to be "male" or "female" is complete bullshit you can't force me to be "him" or "her", being forced to be a him or her is the true crime here

Allow neuter or no gender as a option.

Make it a slider, with lots of space to go beyond just male or female, or somewhere in between.

Eunuchs are still referred to with male pronouns (if they identify as male), they do not become "it".
Which means "neuter" pronouns are confusingly named, yeah. I'm sure people would choose them occasionally but they're not worth the UI option and the amount of accidental offensiveness. An admin can var-edit your gender if you ask, though, and it does update your pronouns (but only to he/she/it/they).

Realized, thank you though for clarification for others.

I was probably confused somewhere... Hell, I still am.
