From what I can tell, they're not that popular. I don't know why anyone would want them. Also, never seen someone use them in a robust way besides a nuke op who blew himself up and the limbs hit a grille, shocking the guy who killed him to death.

if you stand 4 tiles away it doesn't even shock the person who threw it, i use it to grief hoplines by smashing the window and firing a pneumo cannon of paper at the grille to fry everyone.

engineers fucked up containment? station-eating singulo.
science slipped up in toxins? science is now a plasma fire.
some chucklefuck in atmos opened the wrong pump when setting the turbine up? the whole station is now a plasma fire.

not to mention it doesn't always have to be accidental. stuff like this being used against you intentionally is part of what makes this game unique.

Many things (like o2 tanks) can't be thrown more than 3 tiles. Often there is no room to throw 3 tiles. Glass shards are more or less the only nonconducting items and hurt you on use.

Yeah, there's a difference between being a shithead and blatantly breaking the rules, greytiding is breaking into engineering to nick the gloves, not setting the bloody singularity loose. I actually like tesla grilles, they make the station more dangerous, which feels like the whole point.

There's a difference between interesing, dangerous features and getting 1 sheet of metal and a wire and making an infinite death rape machine with it.

It's basically an electric fence - you touch it and it zaps you. Now, something touches it, it sends FUCKHUGE energy balls everywhere to pound the face of anyone unfortunate enough to dare stand next to a window.
If that's what an electrified grille does, touching a live wire should just ash you.

It doesn't even make sense that touching the grill gives you a minor shock while throwing something at it shocks everyone within a three tile radius, killing them. I know this is 2D spessmens and we don't strive for realism, but that's ridiculous.

As a drone one time I 'upgraded' the power net, smes, everything I could involving the engine. The station had a shitload of power but I think some grey tiders had a bad time on the other end cutting the wrong wire.

Making things super lethal for no particular reason is not fun, it's memetastic shittery, especially when it's literally inconsistant with the same mechanics everywhere else in the game.

I am all for having any electric shock ash you if engineering have wired in their quintuple supermatter engine into the grid or whatever, but it makes absolutely zero sense that every electric shock in the game zaps on touch, while grilles (when thrown at, but not touched??) cause FUCKHUGE energy balls to fly around the room raping people.

For real though I think the airlock safeties should just be off by default so assnuggets stop standing in doorways, and gives some plausible deniability to rogue AIs doorcrushing people.
