I'm doing a rewrite of revenants at the moment to improve their outdated code and I wanted some player input on a new name I have planned for them. Right now, they're named revenants, which are, by definition (taken from dictionary.com):

• a person who returns.
• a person who returns as a spirit after death; ghost.

My proposal is to rename them into umbras, which are:

• shade; shadow.
• the invariable or characteristic accompaniment or companion of a person or thing.
• the complete or perfect shadow of an opaque body, as a planet, where the direct light from the source of illumination is completely cut off.
• the dark central portion of a sunspot.
• a phantom or shadowy apparition, as of someone or something not physically present; ghost; spectral image.

I felt that umbra was more thematically fitting of a spirit that's not quite alive but not quite dead, but it was suggested that I gather player input on the subject. Please make a choice in the poll above and give your thoughts.

Umbra is really generic. I think Revenant is just better.

Just call them what they actually are, griefghosts.

I think that if you're gonna name them umbras, you should make a version of revenants named penumbras that instead of hiding when not using powers has to be 100% unrevealed to be effective, masquerading around the station and fucking things up as the crew are oblivious, in the rare case a chaplain does his job and reveals him through means unknown to me, he plays this song.

I don't like umbra, maybe wraith? shade? anything else? Why haven't we made them look like every other ghost? More at 7.

I like revenant, but I think that poltergeist would be an even better name.

I say only name them umbras if we rename ratvar

The revenant needs to be able to throw/possess items like the Goon wraith does if it becomes a poultergeist because currently it's not a poultergeist
