Just as the title suggests, you should be able to perform surgery on yourself if you have Lidocaine, Also, a bit should come from the mining vendor (at mid-high cost) to address the recent controversial legion soul nerf https://tgstation13.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=7790 Some should also be supplied at round start in the medivendors just like spaceacillin and whatnot.

It'd still be a costly affair in medical supplies due to failures from ghetto tools needing to be healed, but it also opens up a few nice options for people who just can't trust a doctor, or find a doctor, or get into medbay at all, because all the doctors are fucking off somewhere else, or otherwise defending supplies that they refuse to use on people needing it yet still want to keep locked away for inexplicable reasons known only to them. (I play medical doctor too, but damn this is getting all too common.)

I want to be able to augment myself. Nobody in science ever wants to waste so much time on another person.
...me included.

I've augged people in the past.
Of course, I've regularly gotten murdered when they offered to aug me.

Kinda the heart of the issue here.

we're all too jaded for the system not allowing self surgery.
Hell we're too jaded to put ourselves in anyones power even for super powers.

You of all people suggesting something to cater more to powergamers... What?
No, the game's about paranoia, there's no paranoia if you can do everything yourself and get all that super cool shit without having to throw yourself at the relative mercy (you're still conscious) of someone else once in a while.

Me of all people? No idea what that means, but it's surgery we're talking about here, I'm not saying add a genetics console buttons inside the genetics machine, or make sleepers and cryo useable from within. We're not solo gamers, I'm just saying there should be an option to not have to put yourself in peoples power if IF you have the right item.

we got a bunch of cool new options for surgery, but they are sadly underutilized because of the obvious elephant in the room problem that you must rely on someone else to use those options.

Hell, maybe I took the wrong approach to presenting this option, maybe a 'numbing agent' traitor item instead of a recipe?

I like the idea! Self surgery should definitely be dangerous though.
It could have a timing system, where you have to click at the proper time.
Do it too early or too late, and you have a high risk of messing up the surgery and dealing a lot of damage to yourself. Even if you do this perfectly, there is still a small chance of failure anyway.
The more dangerous surgeries could have a chance to outright kill you. If you want to play it safe and minimize risk, you're much better off getting someone else to do it. But if you have no such opportunities, I like that there can be a way.
