People are beginning to say this whole thing about the surgeon doing full-head transplants on people is actually a really elaborate marketing stunt. They're comparing photos of the doctor to his render in the game and reading through some of the supposed published materials of the guy looking for weird correlations.

I finally got around to playing Ground Zeroes and it's pretty great.

I turned off the reflex system but I totally understand why it's there.

I really hope they keep the buddy system from Peacewalker in Phantom Pain's online play.

The CQC disarm ability is fucking great. That's going to be clutch in multiplayer.

Yep yep. Pre-ordered the game, got my birthday and the day after off.

Going to sit down and binge on this game for 48 hours straight. So fucking hyped.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was almost 7 years ago.

Metal Gear Solid 3 was almost 4 years before that.

Metal Gear Solid 2 was roughly 3 years before that.

Metal Gear Solid was roughly 3 years before that.

...and back in 1998, it came out on September 3rd. And I got it for a birthday present and I played the ever-loving shit out of it.

It's taken 17 years but we've come full circle and the series is (supposedly) concluding with this one. No more Kojima. Thanks again for the Birthday present though.

Is that a Paz magical girl poster? Neat.

I wonder if I'll get to reprise my old MGO name, Bayonet Wolf.

I loved using the knife. You could stun someone, one-hit murder stab someone, slash the shit out of them in a combo, or do other CQC fuckery with it equipped. I used the wasp ability too so I could grab people and stab them with the injector to hack into their SOP. Worked great in combination with repeated taserings.

I don't know.

Everyone keeps talking about how afraid they are of Cheat Engine shitters coming in and ruining invasions but I haven't heard a lot of people trolling and saying they'll do it.

Worst case scenario we'll just do some quick .ini edits and make ourselves unavailable to be invaded. It aint great but it'll keep others from coming in and just shitting all over your work, if that ends up being a major trend.

I wonder how much of invasions will be player-controller and how much of it will work like Outer Ops did, where you send a squad of guys off to do stuff for you and only get to see the results.

Metal Gear is cheaper in Eastern Europe because it's hard to get folks to shell out big bucks to play a videogame in a bombed out hellish warzone when they live in one.

I picked up Ground Zeroes to finally try some Metal Gear gameplay. I'm probably gong to get Phantom Pain when it comes out, the more I heard about it the more interesting it sounded so I got GZ to see if I'd like the gameplay style.

Metal Gear evolves a lot with each game that comes out.

Metal Gear 1&2 were typical top-down shooter kinds of games from the NES era. They were novel in that the enemies wouldn't always run straight at you, they had to spot you first so you could sneak around them.

Metal Gear Solid brought the stealth stuff to the forefront, but still had a lot of action in it. It was still strictly top-down unless you were using the sniper-rifle. The stealth elements were improved but still kind-of janky.

Metal Gear Solid 2 added the ability to enter first-person and shoot people accurately from a distance and a tranquilizer pistol so you could stun people instead of just shooting or avoiding everyone all the time. The stealth got really refined here and emphasized a lot more. The penalties for being spotted became harsher.

Metal Gear Solid 3 added CQC, big open environments, the camouflage index, the ability to lock-on to enemies and a tooooonnnnn of other shit. IMO this is the best game in the franchise. It struck the right balance between providing sneaking stuff that was fun and rewarding to use, and action/shooting stuff that was fun and rewarding to use. It was the first game to feature online multiplayer. It's a prequel that actually takes place waaaaaaaay before the first Metal Gear.

Metal Gear Solid 4 added more gadgets and ramped up the action. Stealth was still an option but often a lot more difficult. A step back towards emphasizing/rewarding more combat.

Portable Ops streamlined a lot of stuff while adding the ability to kidnap enemies and use them for stuff in your own base. This game gets shit on a lot by people for some reason but I liked it a lot. It tells a lot of really critical story stuff post Metal Gear Solid 3 but pre-Peacewalker/GZ/MGS5. I honestly don't know why so many people hate it but love Peacewalker, there's a lot of shared elements between them.

Peacewalker evolved the Portable Ops stuff and continued the story. The first game to feature co-op stuff.

Ground Zeroes is the next evolution of the streamlined gameplay, taking stuff from Portable Ops and expanding on it. It's a sort-of demo for MGS5 but it's also its own thing. CQC has some new doodads. You can mark enemies. There's a slow-motion thing a lot of people hate from a gameplay perspective, but it's not entirely out of place since time is constantly slowing down in different cutscenes so people can do cool shit.

Metal Gear Solid 5 looks like it's going to try to be a combination of Metal Gear Solid 3 and Ground Zeroes. We're back to big open environments but with all the cool new modern innovations and gear and shit. There's base building and some of the online stuff from Peacewalker. Metal Gear Online from MGS4 is making a return. It looks like they're leaning heavily on the Portable Ops/Peacewalker model in terms of having lots of brief and repeatable missions and side-mission stuff available alongside the main story stuff...and it's driving a lot of people who totally skipped those portable games a little crazy. This could be the greatest finale for the franchise in terms of being a combination of all the best stuff from each game, it looks like they're shoveling a lot of stuff in here. It could also turn out to be a total fucking mess of too many cooks/side-quests/grinding shit. This is the first Metal Gear game I've ever been excited for as usual but also in the back of my mind I'm genuinely a little worried that it could all fall flat on its fucking face and suck dicks.

tl;dr it's really fucking hard to say what "Metal Gear Gameplay" is really like. It's a third-person stealth action game...but depending on which game you play it can look/feel totally different.

The game is really schizophrenic when it comes to humor. There's typically a really serious story, but absolutely ludicrous side material and bonus stuff you can find that is bizarre.

Metal Gear Solid 5 looks like it's going to be the darkest, most serious entry in the entire series...

...but it's still a game where you can capture goats and send them back to your base. It's still a game where you can spin your character around in a circle so much they get dizzy and vomit all over the floor.
