Medic-Lathe

Post by FantasticFwoosh » #261190

Alternative kind of lathe for crafting medical supplies

Takes specifically, metal and glass, but also holds stocks of morphine, endephrine and some other chemicals which can be dispensed (with relevant part upgrades and when loaded into the roundstart empty machine) with better efficiency than bottling the raw product. The idea is that you could keep the local medical vendors & chemistry as is (for generic & advanced chems) but doctors have something to use in lowpop to counter dwindling/looted supplies.

> Takes cloth for crafting new medical clothes/gauzes/latex gloves/mouth protection and also a component in printing off medical beds, metal for medic boxes, glass for dispensing bottles, needles etc.

> Directly can convert chemicals into products (brute patches, advanced brute patches etc.) with scaling efficiency :burn:

> Its wire hacked function is to print off stuff like muzzles & syringe guns, not to mention restraining suits.

Supplies in the medical category (such as implants/some medical designs like cryo beakers etc) can be ported over to the medic lathe as long as they only take the required reagents, and inserting tech levels into the medic lathe by swiping tech disks will reveal more designs.

> As a replacement for the body part grower, inserting synthflesh into the machine (with relevant technology swiping or being in radius of a science console for a upload) can allow you to print off organic matter like arms, legs etc.

That's a lot to take in, but the core reasoning behind the suggestion is to help medical bounce back in the face of dwindling resources and also give surgery via a new supply of body parts remain relevant in practice with things to commit surgery on and implements to use. You will still need to source the materials but doctors can busy-body with their knowledge of practitioning health to resupply the stock room & their personal reserves of supplies between influx of patients. :medbot:

Science-creep maybe but the lathe is located in medbay and slighly below the requirement of the portable chemical machine as not to unbalance the current rate of progression.

> Sleepers can heal almost anything but taking supplies in preparation is important

Im half expecting the arguements against it, but literally when was the last time medical got a buff that wasn't focused on how the machines worked? Even if you stripped it back to just a core set of materials (printing off new epi-pens/brute packs etc.) from sets of raw materials without all the upgraded stuff, it'd still be immensely useful.

I will admit i am groggy from not long waking up but i don't think this is top grade autism tier, and promotes interaction between medical and science (just for better materials, chemistry can literally supply everything ointment related and botany some of the more 'out there' chems along with cloth etc.) surgery will be relevant and the machine doesn't need installing or access to use.
