Bottom post of the previous page:

Lost my Raven in an L4 story mission. Fuggg. Insurance covered the cost of the hull, and I managed to come back and loot the wreck while clearing the rest of the site.

Altogether between rigs and insurance and whatnot I lost probably about ~150mil? Oh well.

It was a good excuse to go buy one of these:

No. I was supposed to be running missions with someone who prefers not to be recorded.

I should do another video showing some missions with voice and stuff this afternoon. Lately I've just been uploading shorts.

I could stream instead, since I don't think anyone is going to bother awoxing me or trying to gank the rattlesnake.

Attention Nanotrasen employee's:

I would like to direct your attention to the decorations tab in your corporate management interface.
I've created our first medal, the "Honk Badge". The description reads:

"Given in recognition of exemplary Honks. A reward for outstanding effort in the spreading of Honk throughout the universe. The Honk Badge depicts a golden banana peel on a square of reinforced steel flooring."

If you complete or witness any honkworthy behavior, for example incredible ganks or highly profitable scams, please forward the details to me as I will be looking to award at least one Honk Badge to corporate members by the end of September.

Your CEO,

Dante Frey

I'm Gallente, actually. I was just trying out a Raven for shits.

I have decent missile skills because I trained for Stealth Bombers and Torpedo Launchers ages ago.

That's the first Raven I've ever flown or lost. I've pissed away quite a few other battleships though. L4's vary wildly in difficulty from "Oh boy time to turn on my guns and AFK" to "Oh fuck these NPC's are ganking me just like a small player gang would."

I was webbed by four frigs and a battleship on warp-in. Not really a whole lot I could've done there. Scrambled drones, managed to kill 3/4 frigs and put the battleship into structure before they got me.

Caldari + Gallente = Gurista master race.

But no seriously this thing eats up L4's. I blew through an Extravaganza mission earlier in like under half an hour.

Those things used to take me for-fucking-ever.

I'm told the Mach is king of FAST for mission running but I like hitting for 900+ DPS out to 100km vs 1400 DPS within 30km.

People will shit on you. Get used to it.

Also be careful in lowsec. Even be careful in hisec. CONCORD is fast, but not fast enough to stop the most determined of suicide gankers.

Join the corp. Vote on our recent poll. I'm still talking with a few different alliances about getting us into bigger and better places. I found a sizeable nullsec alliance with a decent chunk of SOV that supposedly has a policy that is open to newer players/corps.

I don't want to just move the group places without talking with everyone else first. I'm not sure taking players who have less than a month worth of experience out into null is a great idea, but I'm not sure it's a terrible idea either.

I'm keeping that close to my chest because

A) I don't want people pre-emptively interacting with these groups
B) In the event the process doesn't work out, I don't want people thinking about where we end up in terms of first choice, second choice, etc.
C) Everyone in the corp except for Dezz and myself are so new they shouldn't have any history with any of the groups I'm looking at anyway.

That being said if you have some group in mind feel free to suggest it. I've asked before if anyone has any contacts in other corps/alliances for whatever reason but so far I haven't ever gotten any answers.

if i had cash i'd reactive and try playing with you guys.

I could fly a Cloki, Tengu, basically every racial T1 to a battleship, had loads of support skills, some T2 weapon skills (was working on a bunch when I stopped playing) and an industry alt capable of flying a Charon that I was gonna setup to use industrial capitals and shit for refining.

then i stopped playing because >dosh and >motivation

if I pick it up again - and oyu're still playing when I do - I'll give you a yell I guess

ps: look into lowsec or w-space, nullsec is shit tier and once you actually get there you realise you're basically just a pawn for a greedy alliance director who's jewing out of your hard work.

Lowsec has the advantage of still being NPC, whereas w-space requires a lot of trust and teamwork (and there's less jewing, at least in my experience. I spent a lot of my later days in w-space).

W-space would be neat but it seems like everytime I venture into one some team of crybaby carebears are already there.

We don't have enough numbers of combat ready pilots to really fuck any other groups over yet.

I haven't really gotten any positive reception on the diplo front. Any alliance I talk to wants us to disband and fold themselves into it.

it may seem like cynical shitposting but he's really on the mark. That'd be why. As a corp you don't appear to have much infrastructure of your own so all they see is fodder.

Lowsec or (maybe) NPC null would be a good place for you to look. Lowsec often gets overlooked but there's lots of money making opportunities and pvp to be had.

Instead of joining an alliance, it might be better to think about renting space. Alliances recruit corps from renters more than random requests to join. Thanatos is blunt, yes but it's right. Look at the corp, we have no choesion and relatively few active members. We need to build a core, specialise a role for the corp, have nessacery funding - then think about renting.

It's also less about they want to steal from us and we have nothing to steal because whatever we could even have it would be pennies to the executives. These guys get billions each and every day, you really think our measly million income per week is going to do anything for them? They want us to disband because it's easier management wise to control people if they're in an already established corp with rules compared to one that they just scooped up.

One of the reasons I've wanted to get us into an alliance is so that people would have more folks to play with. A bunch of us are in school now and so we don't have as much time to play or teach.

There are good alliances outside of sov nullsec! PVP alliances in low might be a serious consideration because the environment lends itself to on-and-off playing.

The problem with lowsec is that even nullsec is considerably more safe than lowsec.

Literally you go to any High Sec > Low Sec gates and you're going to get camped on the other side.

More like train wreck.
What the hell is going on here? I'm going to guess you've tried to fit bigger rails than your skills can accomodate and so you've sacrificed your tank and further weapon upgrades to fit them anyway.

Downgrade the guns if you have to and ditch that salvager. Fuck salvaging.

Make sure that shield booster is a decent meta-level. Ditch the shield extender for an Adaptive Invulnerability Field. Get a second magnetic field stabilizer for your lows.

It's not cap stable but it should hold out a little better than what's pictured above. Keep your transversal up by orbiting your enemies and pound them with all those guns. Hopefully you wont get hit that much anyway.

Oh nah the SAWS at that time I hadn't the skill to actually use it, It's activated now. Also they're 125mm Proto Gauss Guns. I'm waiting for some skills to pop so I can actually put T2 MFS.

I'm just using that while I work on getting the skills for a Caracal which I'll be running with HML to do some T2 solo kiting bsns.

This is the finished product:
Image
I like the shield tank tho, that's 1.2k EHP right there just using the SAWS and 35hp per cycle using the Shield Booster II

Modified the fit slightly. >Putting blasters in a Caldari destroyer whoops what was I thinking.

The fit I posted reps for 42hp a cycle and hits out to 27.5km for 200dps with antimatter rounds. Keep in mind that's with my skills though and I have a lot of hybrid turret shit going on. Your mileage may vary.

There's primarily two kinds of tanking in EVE and they suit different enemies.

In PVP you want a buffer tank. That is, just a huge fuckin' amount of hitpoints to soak up damage. Engagements are typically short affairs where small groups all dump shots into one target at a time in a big ass alpha volley. If you have a ship that can take that on the chin, then you have a ship that can survive to fire back and wipe them out. You can go repair afterward or get a logi friend to fix the damage.

In PVE you want an active tank. Something that is able to be self-sustaining and regenerates itself over time. You're typically fighting huge swarms of guys that are all targeting you...but they hit for little measly bits of damage. You're never taking the big hits of PVP battles, but all in all you're absorbing a lot more damage...just drawn out over a long period of time. If you fit a buffer tank you will eventually get nickel-and-dime'd to death by all these rats and NPC's, but if you fit active reppers and resistance mods you'll barely ever notice any damage accruing.

The third major type of tanking is speed tanking and it's for advanced pilots only, and it only works on certain hulls in certain scenarios...but it can work against both other players and against NPC's. I can't really describe it in detail but the basic premise is that you go so fast and have such a small signature that people just can't ever hit you, and typically you'll have some kind of active tank module to pulse for those times when they get lucky and do. The risk here though is that a single stasis webifier on you hits you like someone running up to you riding a bicycle down the street and stuffing a broomstick in your spokes. You eat shit hard.

Missiles hit really hard in their weight class and up. They suck balls against targets below their optimal, though. To fix this you use a target painter on smaller targets to blow up their signature radius and then blow up their ship.

Speed helps. There's a linear velocity reduction to missile damage. The faster you are going in any direction when a missile hits you reduces the damage you take. They WILL find you and hit you if you're within their range though. There's no dodging them like there is with everything else in the game. That's probably the biggest advantage with missiles: you're always going to get SOME damage when you fire them at something as long as they're within your flight range.

They have their downsides though, typically very slow fire/refire rate because of flight time. If I fire a large turret at a frigate, and it connects, that frigate is going to get fucked. That's not the case with missiles. If you fire a cruise missile or a torpedo at a frigate it deals a lot less damage than if you had hit a battleship sized target. It's a result of the way the game calculates damage for their explosions. A single shell or laser bolt is the full damage of the weapon concentrated on one point. A missile's damage is spread out over the area of the explosion. If I point a turret at a frigate and fire, the whole bullet hits the frigate and the frigate takes full damage. When a missile with a large explosion radius hits a frigate, there's a lot of empty space blowing up around the frigate that is essentially wasted damage.

Missiles and drones are arguably better weapons than turrets for a lot of reasons, but they're also balanced to be more costly in terms of skill-points and often the ships that focus on them have other faults to make up for the fact that they can be potential power-houses. They can also be directly countered: drones can be targeted and shot down, you can fit defender missile launchers to intercept incoming missiles.

Sorry for being so blunt and generally mean about this, but This was my thing for awhile. EVE is just... Evil. Brutal. It brings out the worst in people. It is likely that Billions, even trillions, of ISK are scammed on a daily basis. The only way to truly survive in the player-controlled sides of the game are to be as salty, cynical, and untrusting as possible. Use people the way they're going to use you, and hope you're in enough of a position of strength to fight off the resulting wardec.

And this is from someone who's only barely been in nullsec. Even in my limited experience, I know more than enough(partly thanks to old friends who did it longer) to say what I say with conviction. I know which way the wind blows. Even Dwarf fucking Fortress for all it's madness doesn't compare to the way that EVE can change you.

Though I believe if anyone can pull this off, it's you guys.

The question is, will you want to? (Thought I do urge to get into at least LowSec. Because fuck being High Sec Heroes.)

Also, is Redspace still horrific and terrifying?

EDIT: This is why I kind of advocate Wormholes, though. Get yourself a lot of ISK, somes poses, Enough dudes to do 24hr watch on your shit and go into the holes. Get the awesomeness of Nullsec without half the people. Last I heard, Sleeper shit was still lucrative.

Probably gonna need someone with good hauler skills to fuel the pos... cus when that shield goes down, someone will fuck you.

I've been getting back into SS13 and /tg/-Station, I could also potentially get back into EVE in the coming month(s) once I have the money. I have one indy pilot that's been used off and on since 2008 and one somewhat combat ready pilot that is about 6 months old. The indy pilot has plenty of miners including a hulk and the combat pilot is probably a month away from proper low-sec brawling without issues.

Literally you go to any High Sec > Low Sec gates and you're going to get camped on the other side.

the map has a couple awesome features that make identifying camped systems (and thus avoiding them) e-z.

Not much, you'll be seeing more of me more regularly methinks.

But yeah, shoulda mentioned that the combat pilot has a bunch of ships, primarily getting skills so I can properly fly his cynabal with him.

I'm now kinda wanting to suggest doing the nomadic W-Space lifestyle.. with the intent of hunting around hiding carebares and making them cry.

Beating them into submission then running all their sites before disappearing back to k-space/another wormhole is a surprisingly good way of making ISK.

My main account has scanning probes and an imicus for it. I loved exploring, even found and ventured into a few highsec wormholes. Haven't played in years though.

EDIT- Also believe I had a Vexor with a shitton of drones onboard. Might also have scanning equipment on that one too.

I'd love to lead us into the fires of PVP but at the moment there's a large contingent of people in the corp who are brand new and don't have pipelines to fund their PVP FUNZ.

So helping them establishing that and getting everyone to a point where they can PLEX with a little bit of work each month is top priority.

Once all the new friends have found their space legs and are on steady-enough ground...well shit...there are already plenty of indy care-bear corps right in our immediate vicinity just ripe for plundering, as well as a few high -> low -> null pipelines right around the corner from our HQ offices we could post up in and camp for a night of random killmail accrual.

Making sure they are trained right for pvp is also a good thing early on. New people are usually aimless when they start off training and rush for new ships they can't pilot in any meaningful way.
