Just keep watching, at least til it gets interesting (around episode 11 or 12). Steins;Gate is NOT an anime you should drop.
Also, don't just skip to those episodes either. There's still some important stuff to see before then.

I absolutely HATE it when people tell me, "just keep watching, it'll get good later" (cough cough bronies), but really, Stein's;Gate does get REALLY GOOD and it is worth it. Honestly, I like the beginning as well, but it crescendos nicely.

My friend had me watch a couple arcs of Higurashi a while back... anyone know if it's worth picking back up?

Dropping Steins;Gate is like a crime in otakus eyes.
Regarding the Higurashi series, I can't really say. I read the manga, which I prefer.
No matter what though, the story is always good. Well, in the manga anyways. They separate it into 4ish volume arcs.

I can agree with this, but I also say it a lot as well.
If I think something is worth recommending, I'll push for people to watch it. If I like something, I think more people should like it too.

Some animes are kind of hard to get into because they don't set up in this GRIPPING way that a lot of other media might do. It's hard to look at 3 seasons of something and be like 'welp I'm totally going to just start watching'. Like it took me the LONGEST time to get into space bros, and also FMA brotherhood, mostly because I saw the original FMA and thought it would be samey. Shit I was so wrong.
