Guide to Atmos overhaul
Hey everyone,
I have played on /tg/ for a long time now, and decided to get somewhat active with the community here.
I like atmos a lot, and I feel like it's strayed away from due to it's complexity. I feel like it's not complex when put into the right context. Our guide to atmos at the moment is quite thick and overwhelming. I feel like atmos can be simplified, and maybe a secondary guide to setting up the atmos loop could be made to make what a newbie sees a little less thick
The functions of the gases, fantastically written.
The properties of gases, again, well written, but that seems more like the wikipedia article than a game article (maybe a link to the ideal gas law would be acceptable?). I added a TL;DR (which there already was one, but I think it being at the end hurt the section). Essentially, it's that high pressure flows to low pressure, and high temperature makes gas take up more room in the pipes.
The type of atmospheric pipes are hidden in https://tgstation13.org/wiki/Atmospherics_items
Basically, the type of pumps aren't really shown in picture form anywhere I could find, and I think it would help when people look at atmos nervously. I think this should be included with the primary article.
I am posting here to start discussion. Let's make Atmos made easy my friends.

Re: Guide to Atmos overhaul
The problem with rewriting the Atmospherics page to be "simpler" is that a very, very large chunk of what makes Atmospherics work efficiently is in theoreticals. Even simple things like the Fire Triangle play a part in practice. This game did start as an atmospherics simulator, after all.

Re: Guide to Atmos overhaul
The gases might be being added, but the change to the wiki format is necessary.
I am going to take a closer look at other guides for ideas, since I think they're all for the most part written well and clearly. After that, I will summarize what I will be changing. I will then make the change. If it isn't good enough, we can always revert back.

This. Or you can make a temporary page for it under your username on the wiki.NanookoftheNorth wrote:If it isn't good enough, we can always revert back.
No one should be afraid to make changes, no matter how big they are. We can always revert/rework them
