>I now have no idea how to play music anymore
>Nothing sounds like it used to so I can't figure out where to find my old tunes either

I'll adapt, but this is still pretty fucking annoying
Edit: After trying for a few minutes, what the shit were they thinking? How did this get through any sort of QA?
Edit edit: This is top level retardation. Can't keep playing without breaking my wrists. I sure as fuck hope they hotfix this because bard music is now borderline unplayable outside of the most simple tunes

More on the bard thing: It is shit
Halved the buttons available to play music with, locked them in place so you can't rebind them, and made it painful and cumbersome to play even the smallest tunes

Did they not test this shit?

you can rebind them but you cant bind the octaves and half steps which sucks, I can still play music about the same as I could before though

also as a war main nu war is great for dungeons I can become a living blender but it sucks against bosses because its just zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *burst for 10 seconds* zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Kefka on NM almost feels a little underwhelming, but that is because his final phase and therefore the fourth and best part of Dancing Mad are only in Savage mode.

In times long passed I ground my crafters to the mid teens/early twenties for some and it was a real fucking labor.

The I discovered GC Provisioning and how you can snag gorillions of exp for fucking nothing each day by handing in HQ's and I got all my crafters to 50 without even having to pay attention, just play consistently and toss even generic items at them; just make sure you check them all off each day and you'll get there by doing nothing but being consistent.

Ishgard resto is fantastic EXP but the rewards are shit. You get lotto tickets and a selection of glam/vanity shit. The materials to grind there are so dirt cheap tho it's the fucking PotD of crafting.

Collectibles turn-ins is the realness. It's typically gonna be more costly to do than Ishgard resto but the experience can be higher depending on what item you're targetting and the material rewards (crafter scrips) are waaaaaaaay fucking better than skybuilder's with some essential crafting stuff like Mastercraft Tomes and shit locked behind them.

Collectibles can also make you filthy fucking rich if you desynthesize premium shit into other hard-to-get mats like sands and stuff, while Ishgard resto only pays you if you are spending scrips on glam items and reselling them or get lucky on your kupo ticket and sell a rare mount or whatever.

tl;dr

Do your GC turn-ins everyday
Ishgard Restoration until 60
Collectibles turn-ins at Rowena's after 60, pop in to the firmament whenever there's an event or they have ranking on again.

leves are faster in the 60+ range i've found, collectibles are probably faster but require more thinking on my part - I used ishgard to get every crafter to 60 or so but I can go to kugane and hit 70 in like, very very little time

Get those scrips boys

The crafter's scrips are the most precious so any turn in you can do that rewards you with them (custom deliveries, rowena's, etc) should rate high on your to do list.

People like to ignore FSH but its strength is that it trivializes gatherer's scrips and just mindlessly ranking up any custom delivery you can throw fish at if you want to go that route. You should be handing crafts to them but if you are being lazy its a way to do it.

But FSH can be a real easy route to ton of scrips, sands, materia, etc

I was trying to catch some fish to desynth into water clusters the other night and accidentally fished up a quarter million worth of sands in like...under a half-hour?

CUL recipes are always a little extra stupid but a lot of their ingredients are so cheap and plentiful it usually looks way worse than it is, and you almost always yield 3-6 items instead of one.

Yeah the mentor system in this seems really stupid and unreliable. I've watched people with mentor status up completely blunder into novice mechanics, fuck up, and respond with BM and ragequit. I only know one mentor worth a damn and they were already my friend.

Party finder is usually rife with people trying to sell training to others and shit but every FC I've ever seen already provides that to members for free so I have no idea who is patronizing these other "elite" players

The idea of paying some self-professed FFXIV pro player to teach you to raid gives me a chuckle

Getting closer to starting Shadowbringers finally fuck yes.

SAM fuckin rules. I hated it at first because of the goddamn awful weeb factor. Glamming all the stupid fucking kemono gear back into respectable clothing helped a lot in returning any shred of possible respect for it. Everytime I see a fucking Mi'Qote or Au Ra lady with butterfly wings and a yukata on swinging a sword around I wish I could reach through the computer and rip the neckbeard off them like velcro.

Still, class very good tho just attracts a lot of terrible players/fashion.

I've done parse run stuff for all the bosses so far this expansion

I didn't play much the previous ones so I can't really say how they compare but I have been enjoying them all so far ^_^

There are some annoying misleading or finnicky mechanics but there isn't a ton of rng or anything that felt unfair or w/e

They're a good difficulty I think, my group got through most of them in one or two nights of prog, e8s took quite a while because it's probably the hardest so far and small mistakes are a wipe

But yeah overall definitely been enjoying them ^^
I'm a healer though so the experience might be different for dps or tanks idk

They're working on revamping the A Realm Reborn portion of the MSQ so you're in luck.

Unfortunately the beginning core chapter of the game from lvl1-50 is the worst, story and quest-wise. It's important to get through it and pay enough attention to get what is going on so you can enjoy the absolutely fucking amazing story bits later (Heavensward so fucking good 11/10 better story and character development than you'd think possible in an MMO expansion holy shit). They're well aware of this though so they're working on cutting down the questline in the upcoming patch and adding flying mounts and shit to those zones so you can zip through it all faster.

My advice is just pick a class that seems to appeal to you and focus on burning through the main story as fast as you can. Bonus points if you pick a healer or tank, your queues for shit will be shorter.

Once you get to HW you can actually start to enjoy the story and you can just go run other classes through Palace of the Damned to get them up to 50 if you decide you'd rather play something else.
A couple things in HW also make gathering and crafting much much easier to level, so if you can be patient and hold off on fooling around with side-stuff you'll get a lot better return on your time investment after you clear up ARR.

Tanks:
You'll only get to choose between WAR and PLD. Both are very good so you can't go wrong. You might have more fun with WAR though, PLD doesn't start getting its FUN stuff until like 60+

Healer:
WHM is the best solo healer and good for prog. SCH is arguably better for speedruns. I prefer WHM because I fucking hate pet classes. Can't really go wrong here.

Melee DPS:
MNK job satisfaction got polled as the lowest in the game across all players. So yeah avoid that? DRG is still really sought-after in end-game raiding groups because of its party-wide crit boosting ability. Prepare to die and be laughed at a lot though. FLOOR TANK. NIN makes you Naruto run and every NIN player begs for an option to turn that off while every non-NIN player laughs at you and hopes they never change a fuckin' thing.

Non-Melee DPS:
BLM is one of the only jobs that has a lot of fun mechanics pre-50. The rotation is very simple but it SLAPS. SMN is very good too. BRD gets a spot in a lot of end-game static parties and you can toot starting at level 30. Its actual DPS output needs a buff tho.

What server are you at? Leviathan is where it's at mostly, with a bunch of us on there. But since you can chat and group up across the datacenter anything in that server cluster will let us play with you on there

You'll only get to choose between WAR and PLD. Both are very good so you can't go wrong. You might have more fun with WAR though, PLD doesn't start getting its FUN stuff until like 60+

Pretty much true, all 4 tanks preform very similarly. Main difference is in their invulns (pld has the best and drk had the worst) but they're all good overall.

Healer:
WHM is the best solo healer and good for prog. SCH is arguably better for speedruns. I prefer WHM because I fucking hate pet classes. Can't really go wrong here.

Depends what you mean by solo heal, best one for savage stuff is astro atm. But yes out of sch or whm, whm has the easier time at low levels
The main difference in the healers is their complexity and how much stuff you have to juggle and decisions you have to make. Whm is reactionary mostly. So you see someone get hit and heal them up. Sch you need to prep a bit or make decisions ahead of time as all your good heals require resources you could also use for mana/dps. So there a lot more "should I hold onto this stack to move with energy drain or does the tank need the heal to stay alive?" Ast is in between the two but with the card minigame added on.
Also Sch isnt much of a pet class anymore. You can largely park it in the middle of the fight and ignore its existance. It does have some annoying quirks stemming from the fact it's a pet though, like using skills at the wrong time cause them to go on cd with no effect. It's avoidable though. Currently in speedrun stuffs the meta is astro/whm or astro/sch. Although in non-speedrun stuff nobody cares (they often want a whm with drk though because their invuln is stupid)

Monk is still fine, don't be too scared off by that poll if you like the punchy monk theme. Monk basically has a bunch of positionals (has to flank the boss to the sides or back while executing certain attacks to do the most damage) so theres a lot of movement throughout the fight to optimize damage. Basically you need to put in more work for the same damage, but its worth trying out, you never know if youll really like it!
Drg is good for raid groups, as is nin (all are fine though really). Drg mostly has that reputation as a meme these dsys. They used to die to raid wides easier than everyone else (iirc) until stats were changed. That plus the animation lock on the jumps often get them killed

Blm is neat, and changes a fair bit as you level. Its definitely one of the classes that gets the most love from the devs. Summoner is similar to sch in that its only kinda a pet class by the end. As you level you get stances that replace or delete the pet for a bit, so you don't have to manage it much. Although it has similar skill eating issues to sch. It's also the top dps in the current raid tier if that matters to you

Brd is actually rather unpopular these days for end game groups (you could still easily find one, i just mean bards aren't common) mostly because they got their support-y ranged dps niche stolen in 5.0 by dancer. Brd is still fine, although it has a lot of button mashing so be prepared for hurt fingers
Anyway
Some random tips to help you out:
Dont keep old gear, you can turn in dungeon gear to your gc if you really want but your inventory fills up quick if you horde things. You can put things you visually like into the glamour dresser in an inn room to use in outfits later

The npcs with blue quest markers unlock something, yellow ones are mostly just for flavour and dont really give much exp

Try legacy controls in the settings, it makes movement character based rather than camera based and lets you run backwards/turn around if you press s instead of slowly shuffling back while facing forward

If you have a fast computer getting to the Waking Sands is quicker via limsa ->arcanists guild->boat to vesper bay rather than through horizon

Crafting is fairly interesting and worth checking out

Doing the hall of the novice tutorial things gives a decent set of lvl 15 gear (that looks nice) and a ring that boosts exp gain

If you ever want to do trials/raids labeled "minstrels ballad" "Savage", "extreme" or "binding coil..." don't use the duty finder or youll wait like 36 hours to fill. People use the party finder (pf) for those sorta things as they require more coordination than randoms tend to be able to handle

If your queue times are too long as a dps try to get a healer friend or tank friend to join you, makes the queue instant usually

Don't forget to do your job quests, as there are a bunch of skills locked behind the lower level ones
