Bottom post of the previous page:

Fwoosh how do you manage to type such nonesense.

Please I love it when people who have never lived in Scotland tell me how shit our country and politicians are despite the fact we keep voting them in because we like them. Keep doing so. It only fuels independence this side of the border.

to be fair the SNP during the last general election were riding high on the tide of salt from the referendum outcome, there hadn't even been a year between them, so it's not so much that the SNP are becoming unpopular as it is a return to normal after the statistical outlier that was the 2015 election. Their membership absolutely surged after the referendum came back as "no".

turns out that while 45% is a pretty solid loss in a binary referendum it's a recipe for a fucking landslide victory under first past the post parliamentary elections

CosmicScientist wrote:During the snap election you had a decrease in SNP MPs in favour of English parties though still were Scottish MPs, though I don't know how you couldn't have Scottish members standing for Scottish people unless they did a you and moved from Engerlund. I'm not wrong about the decrease that happened after the brexit vote, am I? Not being imposing, I legitimately am not familiar with how any seats changed besides Buckingham's not because lol exceptions in democracy.

The SNP still hold the majority of the vote and seats. It's natural for a party that is in power to lose seats. However they've been the largest party in the Scottish parliament for well over a decade now. Usually after a decade a party will start to lose popular support but the SNPs remains strong. Also "technically" the parties in Scotland such as Labour and Tories are "scottish" parties that are merely associated with the Westminster party. However in reality they are fully under control of the Westminster parties.

Also nobody predicted Labour would do so poorly as unionists would rally around the Tories and nationalists would rally around the SNP, leaving few to support Labour, however in areas with strong Labour presence most Unionists, even if Tories, voted Labour. That is why the Conservative and Unionist paty (their official name this side of the border) gained quite a few seats in those areas more against independence. There is only one matter that decides what you vote for anymore in Scotland, whether you are a Unionist or a Nationalist. Labour or Tory if Unionists whichever is stronger in your area, SNP if Nationalist.

Despite the seat losses due to polarisation of the voters (around Unionists supporting the strongest Union party in their area vs Nationalists supporting the SNP) the SNP still polls around 40% consistently in Scotland.

Also sorry for the mess in structure, phone posting.

and this is the part that fucking galls me because the parties can come out with whatever insane shit they like over policies that actually affect day to day life as long as they keep waving the appropriate yes/no flag

like the biggest argument against independence for me is "look at the fucking shower we'd end up having in charge of absolutely everything"
like the SNP are fuckin nanny enough with some of their policies (the alcohol licencing hours one is the one that catches me out the most because whoops they forgot to consider that not everyone who wants to shop in a supermarket works 9-5 mon-fri so shift workers get stuck with open supermarkets but no fucking booze aisle, thanks for that arseholes)

The local snp Council here in Glasgow recently extended club opening hours to 4am when they were restricted to 3am by the previous Labour Council.

There was genuinely a serious drinking issue in the country which led to the ban on store alcohol sales past 10pm. I agree its drastic and I don't have the time this early in the morning to see what other parties voted for it but I'm sure it wasn't just the snp.

Also cosmic I don't think crag was being serious.

Unless he was in which case I'm worried.

Also scree I'd rather a few nanny state laws than whatever the fuck the tories want to think of next to fuck this country and its services.

even since she was home sec she's been pushing for internet shit without actually understanding what the internet is, like wanting to ban encryption despite everyone with half a brain saying "you can't ban fucking maths" and then the porn licence shite

I think it got foisted on the BBFC 'cause they're the nearest thing to any kind of body that comes close to deciding if content is suitable for kids and they've pretty much said "you've given us a dam made out of chickenwire and expect us to block it with our thumbs" so the proposal just kinda keeps getting watered down by the power of "we can't check every fucking site on the internet"

last I heard the BBFC kept kicking the deadline down the road on account of actually having a real job to do that that they consider actually a: reasonably feasable to accomplish and b: more important and at this point I'm getting the feeling that they're hoping everyone will forget about it so they can quietly shelve it without having to actually admit that they're trying to do the digital equivalent of making a law that says pi is 3

the whole thing reminds me of king cnut and his little stunt by the sea where he went out and demonstrated "I might be the king but even the fucking king can't just pass a law that the tides stay out and expect them to actually stay out"

just as may can't just pass a law demanding that someone invent a secure backdoor on all encryption that only the government can use and can't be abused or exploited by bad actors within the government or without and also makes sure that all people actually use it

hell between the porn bill, encryption, and brexit, pretty much her entire tenure has been a string of "what do you mean nobody's invented a way to do this yet, I wanted someone to do it"

I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to save the NHS by banning cancer and expecting every patient to go into remission immediately because cancer isn't allowed in britain any more

It was a ok imitation but you can't rush expression, of which you just made it very vague in places.
Concerning history, Scotland took over England, then forgot England had more people, and England took over Scotland.
Infrastructure, London was still a big city at the time for not being strictly in Europe (a estranged relationship after queen elizabeth's father Henry the 8th established the anglican church pissing off many catholics in the process & persecution later etc), short of conquering Scotland simply having a Scottish Monarch go native was the best outcome, it wasn't like the state capital was moved to Glasgow overnight. Queen elizabeth was basically co-erced into it on her deathbed but it all turned out for the best.

Though the world vassal is hyperbole the current agreement sounds like a situation where we will have to follow nearly all EU laws anyway without any say in them what so ever.

Basically leavers won't be happy and remainers won't be happy.

A remain vote on the basis of "sure the EU are a pack of cunts but if we leave we'll be 100% at the mercy of a completely unfettered westminster who are an even bigger pack of cunts" is a perfectly sound position to take

Like you can bang on all you like about sovereignty but then you realise that it means theresa may is in charge of everything

The EU is trying to punish us for exercising our own democracy as i think that suprises no one, this was probably in the long-game anyway if the referendum flipped the other way. Entirely hook or crook we were going to try and be strongarmed into the EU meaning that Germany and France who are very much in each other's pants have the entirety of the EU parliment vote without other smaller states with less EU MEP's because GB was third for representatives. On the opposition is ourselves (uk) Austria & Italy + Hungary and maybe Poland.
  • Other member states like the balkan states are too insignificant with too few MEP's to do anything, Greece is being blackmailed by germany of their debt pretty much with only a handful of MEP's, Poland will probably flip flop or remain neutral but in rhetoric appears to be non-reformist pro EU as opposed, especially since Russia is prowling about on the world stage.
Talks regarding a EU army mouthed by Macron (if any of this happened behind closed doors, then Macron is likely someone very poor at keeping his mouth quiet) and Alienated the US later repeated by Merkel on the same day that anybody heard about the Brexit details deal being done. Threats over a EU army have been rattling around for years, its nothing new.

As a footnote, having a army composed often precedes the seizure or formation of power if history has taught anything to virtually anybody, as weapons are very persuasive.

You can physically change representatives in government within the by voting on a local and national scale, voting UKIP or the green party would simply push green party or UKIP reps into parliment, the EU directors are a unelected pack of cunts who just inherit the job due to seniority in EU government and my knowledge is too vague to determine how EU MEPs are elected, but its all very bread and circuses over there with the likes of Warmonger and total prick Tony Blair swanning around the EU headquarters trying to claim to be a scion of peace.

This is hilarious.

They even got Nepal right so I don't know how they got this wrong, especially when that flag is for Northern Cyprus and not Cyprus Cyprus.

It even has flags for territories like Bermuda. :brain: I wonder if it has the components of the UK too... or Catalonia...

Well I mean Turks believe that is the legitimate Government of Cyprus.

It's a complicated history, Turks and Greeks used to coexist fairly happily on the island until the Greek Military government attempted a military coup to take over the island. The Turkish government intervened to protect Turks who were worried they would be forced off the island.

Honestly both types of Cypriots mostly want unification these days. Turkish cypriots have far more in common with their fellow Cypriots than with mainland Turks.

Also I like that flag it's quite nice.

Also I mean I actually live with a Cypriot Turk and it's really a "nobody cares but the old people" situation. Nobody actually wants to bash anybodies head in but there are several issues to sort out.

Such as land that used to be owned by Greek Cypriots in Northern Cyprus and vice versa for old Turkish owned land in Southern Cyprus. Along with economic issues etc.

The Cypriot Turks are also very anti-Erdogan too and are politically far closer aligned to their fellow Cypriots than Turkey.

Also this, Cyprus is wonderfully diverse in history. It's geographical location has made it vitally important during several human eras.

War, civil war never changes.
A woman was taking her son to the doctor, found the road blocked and herself surrounded by protesters, panicked, hit the gas... one protestor dead. I don't even know how much fuel prices are over there but I'm betting they're still lower than ours
