Why do you play on /tg/Station?

Well. I feel like this thread has been made before, and if not. It's a good time to make it.

Me personally, I play on /tg/ because the rounds go fast, and enough entertaining stuff happens to keep me engaged.

I go on and off on Paradise, mostly because at the 2-hour mark. There's just not much going on anymore, and doing the same task over and over made me burn out really fast compared to how rounds flow here.

What keeps you here?

Half the servers are shitholes with 15 different species and you can’t say “furry” because its an OOC term (lol) and then you get perma banned for it and half to beg cocky rat fucks on forums with their fursona profile pictures to unban you.

The other side of the spectrum is dominated even more than tg by 12 year olds who powergame as hard as they can. People are especially cancerous on this side.

And then of course tg is one of the most popular servers, meaning you can always enjoy that 60 player sweet spot which other servers fall short of.

Not to mention we have the best code team, a “tolerable” set of rules, and a lot of good admins. Cliques exist on /tg/, but arent immune like they are on other servers. And above all else we have a ton of fun and likeable people here.

i tried a couple different servers for a round or two and eventually i just kept pressing the replay button for bagil. by the time i felt like trying other servers i was too used to tg's graphics, code, and rules to feel comfortable switching so i just hung around. after that, i ended up liking some of you guys and stayed for that.

Bay is okay once and a while, but high RP is too much effort to do on the regular
/tg/ has got a cool codebase and cool people. You can have an IC conversation with someone without having to go full commedia dell'arte

i cant really speak to liking how different /tg/ is compared to other servers as ive barely played them (MAYBE half a round on bay and /vg/ years ago), but despite me being fully aware of the fact that a great majority of the people here dislike me i still really enjoy playing. if and when that enjoyment wears off i might try other places.

I don't even know. It's the second server I've ever played on, but /vg/ is so lowpop it puts Sybil to shame. I never really played on other servers, except for CM but that's a different game. Oh yeah, I did play a bit on Bay, but then I got perma banned for wearing a gask mask and firesuit.

So the answer is, where the fuck else am I supposed to go?

As far as I remember back in the day the only major servers were goon, bay and tg

Bay was too slow, goon was non-stop insanity. TG was a happy medium between the two and I guess I haven't really found a reason to look elsewhere

/tg/'s become really stale to me and the lack of communication and even the slightest suspension of disbelief has grated on my nerves to the point they've become raw, but even still, I get tired of having a rod shoved up my ass so far up that it comes out of my mouth as a flagpole.

As for Eris, I'll give you the cliff notes version:

Eris takes place in the grimdark future of the 24th century in the Canis Major galaxy (colonised by the now-defunct human Alliance and cut off from the Milky Way Galaxy) onboard the Cosmic Exploration Vessel "Eris", a privately owned vessel sponsored by a multitude of factions operating as departments upon it (Moebius Laboratories functions as medbay and research, the Technomancer League as Engineering, Ironhammer as security, Asters Guild as cargo and Frosen Star, Neotheology and the Hansa Trade League as its backers). The most notable faction out of them all is Neotheology.

To cut a long story short, Nanotrasen got taken over by religious fundies and got rebranded as NeoTheology, controlled by the Church of Cyber-Christianity. Neotheologians believe that Judgement Day is coming soon but God gave Mankind technology to create a civilisation of righteous people to fight it, as its Last Chance. The most important thing to know about Neotheology is that only they possess cloning technology, and only Christians may be cloned in a highly ritualised ceremonial machine - its operation is restricted only to those in the Church hierarchy.
When a Christian is first baptised, he is implanted with a cruciform - an implant that effectively functions like a cortical stack. When you die, a clone is made of your body and the cruciform removed and implanted into it - effectively re-sleeving you into it with your personality and memories up to the moment of your death intact. Removing the cruciform is highly lethal and will instantly kill you if it is removed while you're alive, it is located in the chest and is visible in the skin, resembling a tau-cross. The cruciform is highly-hostile to any implant that is not itself and will literally rip them out of your body if it must.

The Eris is the Captain's personal property and he's best described as the SS13 equivalent of a Rogue Trader, being free to do what he wishes. The factions on the ship are here at his leisure (or were hired like Ironhammer, being PMCs) and he's here to turn a profit and needs to keep the factions in check (who have their own agendas).
The Syndicate, as we know it, no longer exists (Ironhammer are actually descended from them) but every faction is innately hostile to Excelsior, who are hyper-expansionist communists who use implants to brainwash people into joining their communes. Traitors and revolutionaries are Excelsior-backed.

The Eris itself is basically if someone took a space hulk and said "yeah this is mine now", stuck some thrusters on it and flew off without clearing out the xenofauna or restructuring it, so maintenance is a literal labyrinth full of loot, traps, workplace hazards and deadly creatures. And that's not counting the ones the Technomancers put up afterwards. Assistants are pretty much slaves in most sense of the words, being hired for very little or press-ganged from passing planets/ships and there are no aliens, that humanity knows of, and if it did - they'd be kill on sight.

I have my gripes with tg like the persistent mute invididuals that add nothing to rounds and are here for a TDM, but otherwise I feel that tg has best kept the spirit of what SS13 is meant to be in my eyes:

1. A silly space sandbox about living and working a space station in the future.
2. A theme of paranoia and suspicion with antagonists to provide some conflict to the story.
3. The players (love you guys <3) who create the story through emergent gameplay, with at least a low level of RP so it isn't pure chaos.

Tg I feel has kept these things straight best compared to most servers, and has a sufficient amount of players and active community development to keep things interesting.

Although of course tg isn't perfect. The first thing that comes to mind when I think SS13 isn't catpeople, and the amount of players that keep at least some semblence of in-characterness has gone down, but right now TG is my pick and will be for as far as I can foresee.

Ironhammer security is a PMC-for-hire and are contracted by the Captain to operate as its security force. They're mostly known for their medical products while their inner-workings are more or less a mystery. They're infamous for rumours of unlawful abductions, experimentations and are one of the few corporations with the legal power to perform otherwise forbidden research in most systems.
Moebius will do anything to gain an edge over the competition and will hoard their research jealousy, though the Overseer is empowered to sell inventions at his own judgement.

The Technomancer League are a bunch of space nomads for the most part. They used to be very technologically dominant but a cataclysm rendered them destitute and forced to live on their feet and pay their way by plying their services as engineers. They typically live in clans, headed by a Technomancer Exultant (the equivalent of a CE) who is their clan patriarch/matriarch.You can think of Technomancers as somewhat less superstitious techpriests and you'd be right for the most part, they venerate technology and are one of the few factions with zero restrictions on synthetics. However, they're highly xenophobic and distrustful of outsiders and are given some leeway to defend engineering in whatever way they see fit, which usually means traps and mazes everywhere.
The Technomancers will refuse to abandon the Eris as much as they can, they're born, raised, live and die on ships and entire generations can be born and die out on vessels they can be found upon.

The Asters Guild is a unity of spaceports, trade stations, shipyards and factories coming together to create a monopoly on space travel. Only the Guild’s members have access to the most advanced engines, navigation devices, AIs, and cybernetics for direct connection to a vessel (it is a cyberpunk dystopia though the cyber part is still WIP mechanics wise). The Captain and the First Officer are technically a part of the Guild as Free Agents, though the Guild Merchant (the QM equvialent) is not subordinate to the Captain and operates independently.
The Asters Guild are interested only in profit margins and maintaining their dominance on interplanetary travel, any threats to that must be eliminated.

NGL I've been playing on Eris a lot more lately than /tg/ unless TGMC is up. /tg/ was pretty fun because it always seemed like things were happening and you could hop into the events or watch them happen instead. Lately, it's been getting progressively NoRP on bagil or completely murderboney on lowpop. /tg/ doesn't really have mechanics that make it fun to do things over time as things are expected to be powergamed easily. I don't really care about the whole 4d-planner+oranges drama or w/e but a lot more things lately have also been getting removed with little actual content being added.

I like /tg/ or TG as /vg/ would call it because there aren't retarded rules like on yog or goon where you get banned for accidentally calling someone a faggot in a heated moment. It also doesn't have the obnoxious baycode that /vg/ has which causes you to fall over from the slightest breeze and get fucked with internal bleeding after getting shot by a single bullet.

I suspect I'm one of the few people who likes the take it or leave it mix of roleplayers and powergamers /tg/ tends to offer. I can have a good time chilling with people around the station or rushing after the wizard with a explosive lance in hand ready to make the next biggest fuckup. I've also found that despite the occasional months long break from the game I can come back to the server, be friendly with randoms and make new friends and enemies. It's comfy and I've not managed to find that in other servers.

I used to be a baystation player, but their rounds got dull and boring and I eventually started playing /tg/. Then I left for a couple years. Came back, found bay super stifling especially now that all my friends were gone and I didn't recognize anyone. Came back here, really enjoyed myself, can't stop playing. It's nice that you can just goof off and not do your job if you're a bit sick of it.
